Is the PO open today?

Nope

I forgot about Columbus Day til I was dropping a book in the blue box in front of my work yesterday morning...so I thought, "oh well, it will be an extra day sitting there." But oddly enough, the book was scanned at around 1 a.m. as usual at the local distribution center, so at least someone must have been working to empty out some of the blue boxes yesterday!

Even tho the mail may not be delivered on Sundays and Holidays, most distribution centers operate 24/7 to keep the mail moving.

At my PO, they collect mail from the outside blue collection boxes even when the PO's closed.  Or, you can go into the lobby and drop thru the drop slot there.  There's always someone in the back working to sort the mail even on Sundays and holidays.
