I REMEMBER SITTING ON THE FRONT PORCH SWING
PAPA SITTING NEXT TO ME
WE WOULD COUNT THE MINUTES TILL SUPPERS DONE
SUN GOES DOWN
ANOTHER DAY IS GONE
THEN WED SIT BACK
TALK ABOUT THE DAY HAD

THINKING BACK TO THAT TIME
BRINGS A TEAR TO MY EYE
WATCHING HIM FROM DAY TO DAY
HE GAVE ME HOPE AND TAUGHT ME HOW TO PRAY
THERE WAS NEVER A DAY THAT I DIDNT KNOW
HOW HE FELT ABOUT ME,
HE NEVER SPOKE ABOUT THE WAY HE FELT
BUT HIS ARMS LET IT OUT ALL BY THEMSELVES

HE WAS A SIMPLE MAN
NEVER GIVING UP
HE WORKED ALL HIS LIFE
FOR THE ONES HE LOVED
NEVER ASKING FOR MORE THAN HE COULD GIVE
DAY TO DAY IS HOW HE LIVED

I WENT BACK THERE JUST THE OTHER DAY
TO THE PLACE OF MY CHILDHOOD DAYS
THEY SOLD THE HOUSE A FEW YEARS BACK
ANOTHER FAMILY CAME
THEY TOOK DOWN THE FRONT PORCH SWING
TO ME THAT SWING MEANT EVERYTHING

I LOOK AT THE PORCH AND I THINK BACK
TO THINGS WE SHARED AND TIMES WED LAUGH
WED TALK UNTIL THE SUN WENT DOWN
BIRDS SINGING ALL AROUND
ON THAT FRONT PORCH SWING
ILL NEVER FORGET THOSE DAYS
WITH PAPA AND ME

HE WAS A SIMPLE MAN
NEVER GIVING UP
HE WORKED ALL HIS LIFE
FOR THE ONES HE LOVED
NEVER ASKING FOR MORE THAN HE COULD GIVE
DAY TO DAY IS HOW HE LIVED

NOW IM GROWN UP
WITH A FAMILY OF MY OWN
AND A FRONT PORCH SWING
WE SIT OUT THERE AND WATCH THE SUN GO DOWN
AND ANOTHER DAY IS GONE
THEN I TELL THEM THE STORY
OF HOW IT USED TO BE
WITH PAPA AND ME

PAPA I LOVE YOU SO
O HOW I WISH YOU DIDNT HAVE TO GO
BUT I KNOW MY MEMORIES WILL BRING ME BACK
TO YOU ON THAT FRONT PORCH SWING.

HE WAS A SIMPLE MAN
NEVER GIVING UP
HE WORKED ALL HIS LIFE
FOR THE ONES HE LOVED
NEVER ASKING FOR MORE THAN HE COULD GIVE
DAY TO DAY IS HOW HE LIVED

ILL NEVER FORGET YOU
NO MATTER HOW FAR APART WE ARE
IM STILL YOUR LITTLE GIRL.

I also remember my father. Oh, to be special in someones eyes again. He saw my soul, and knew that was the most important part of his daughter. Thank you for reminding me.
