This author writes good, clean, English mysteries.
The college dons at the University of Calleshire fully expected trouble when the students planned to shake their ivory tower with a sit-in at Almstone Hall. but no one expected the very peculiar theft from a dormitory room...or the very dead body in the college quadrangle. For Detective Inspector C.D. Sloan, the ivied halls hid a host of clues-from the words whispered with the dying man's parting breath to what a madrigal singer saw. So it was only a matter of time until he uncovered the murderer hidden in the groves of academe...but could he do it before death became another victim's alma mater?

This Sloan and Crosby mystery puts the two on the campus of the University of Calleshire at a student sit-in.  They are protesting the expulsion of a student and take an administrator hostage (in his office).  However, a young lady finds a bloody student slumped against a column of the quadrangle and the police are sent to investigate.
As usual, Sloan is stuck with Crosby (the young policemen no one wants as a 'helper') and he solves the murder in spite of Crosby.  I read Catherine Aird because of her wonderful dry wit and delightful cozy murders.  This one wasn't up to her usual standards; the tight mystery was there but the humor wasn't as strong.

This book kept me enthralled. Clues were raining down on the detectives but only served to stir up the mud for me. Very good read.
