This author writes good, clean, English mysteries.

This Sloan and Crosby mystery puts the two on the campus of the University of Calleshire at a student sit-in. They are protesting the expulsion of a student and take an administrator hostage (in his office). However, a young lady finds a bloody student slumped against a column of the quadrangle and the police are sent to investigate.Â
As usual, Sloan is stuck with Crosby (the young policemen no one wants as a 'helper') and he solves the murder in spite of Crosby. I read Catherine Aird because of her wonderful dry wit and delightful cozy murders. This one wasn't up to her usual standards; the tight mystery was there but the humor wasn't as strong.

This book kept me enthralled. Clues were raining down on the detectives but only served to stir up the mud for me. Very good read.
