I recently requested a book and had the book canceled, I guess because the "sender" ignored the request.  the sequence of events, recentmost on top, in the credit registry, is as follows (the two numbers are adjustment and balance in credits):

request canceled - no response from sender             +1              2

passed on request                                                            -1               1

(many transactions in here)

request a book                                                                    -1              7

I am confused (it has been a while since I took accounting) - it appears I have been debited TWICE and credited ONCE.  The absolute balance is unimportant - what confuses is me is that the debits and credits for this transaction are not equal, so I appear to have lost a credit for a book which will not be delivered, if I understand it correctly.

Either there is a +1 in the middle of your "Many transactions in here" section, or the book request is still pending with the next member....

does "still pending with the next member" mean that if there is someone ELSE who owns the same book, the request is shifted over to them?  that is very cool.

Yes. I had one request go through 3 different members before the request was accepted. I was new & didn't realize that the request "rolls over" to the next book in the FIFO line (First In First Out - order that requests are sent out) 'til a request is either accepted or placed in the Wish List queue.

I puzzled over my credits like you're doing trying to reconcile the numbers. It didn't become clear to me until I received the book in question, then everything "balanced" - hope this helps :)

Been awhile for me also...the right hand column is your balance, so starting from the bottom:

You requested a book (-1) and had a remaining of 7 credits,   *many transactions but probably ends with a balance of two credits*,  then there is a credit subtracted leaving you one PBS credit, and then a timed out book request returns a credit to your account for a balance of 2.

Unclear what 'passed on request' means tho.

I believe that "passed on request" is an messy way of saying the book was reordered for you, as in the request was passed on to the next member with the book, that's why it is a negative.  The +1 for the cancelling of the first transaction shows up after the -1 to reorder for some reason.
