a wonderful story of a young womens struggle in a new America. This tale contains many issues of the day. Including class structure, the rights of women, and the inticacies of being of more than one color in the times of slavery. Set in decadent New Orleans you get to experience "quadroon balls", "kept women" and the ever changing landscape of our country. Follow this young women out of slavery and into her lovers arms. Find gentlemen ready to duel for a ladies affections, as dashing as Rhett Butler ever hoped to be. I highly recomend this book, I hope that you will be enchanted with our heroine as I was. Happy reading
