Abridged Edition

You probably already know about Clancy's main character - Jack Ryan -well this is where it all began!

This book is full of action, thrilling events and articulate language (you don't have to check your "Webster" to figure out what something means). The story is about an ordinary man - Jack Ryan, who accidently foils a terrorist plot to kidnap Prince Charles, Princess Diana, and their infant (at the time of the story) son Prince William.

In the world of fiction, everyone is flawless, marriages are forever, children are wonderful, wives are always beautiful. Well that's the way it is in this book! I found that a little annoying at times, but that's just me. Another thing that took me back a little was the language Clancy uses in his novels - a little raw at times (if you know what I mean). The only reason I even mention it is that it may be offensive to some who aren't expecting it.

Overall, this was an exciting foray into the world of Intelligence Agents, CIA, FBI, terrorists and various other bad guys. It's an incredible, believable story, and one I would recommend you take a listen to.

great read until you reach the end when it seems like Clancy is trying to finish in a hurry.have been disappointed in Clancy as a whole, having said that,i would recommend "without remorse" as a good start with this as a close second(dont bother with Red rabbit!)

If you like high pitched excitement, you'll love this book. If you didn't see the movie with Harrison Ford, read it!

Patriot Games is Tom Clancy's third novel, and second in the "Ryanverse" set of novels. This novel is a prequel to "The Hunt for Red October." In "The Hunt for Red October," Clancy made several key points referring to the events of this outstanding novel, showing that he clearly had a vision for where Jack Ryan was headed, or more succinctly, where he came from.
Tom Clancy established himself as the king of and inarguably the creator of the "modern" techno thriller in "Red October" and "Red Storm Rising." To follow this up in "Patriot Games," he takes a lower tech vantage point, only using the "techno" stuff sparingly, and concentrates more on establishing his main character Jack Ryan as a family man. In doing this, he keenly brought his main character to a human, non superhero level that many readers could identify with. Overall, an excellent novel that is a "can't miss" for those seeking to read his later works.

Jack Ryan, Tom Clancy's hero kills a IRA? or was he assassin to protect English Royals. The evil doe not remain suppreessed, it follows Jack & his family back home in a story that will draw you into a deeper and deeper thriller ... great climatic ending...

This novel is a prequel to "The Hunt for Red October. Patriot Games is worth reading today because even 20 plus years after the fact this book has something to say to all of us about the true nature of terrorism.

A friend recommended Tom Clancy's Patriot Games and I wasn't disappointed. Plenty of excitement and suspense. Can't wait to read my next Jack Ryan series.

Another Jack Ryan story in which he does heroic deeds and eventually triumphs. Tom Clancy seems to always be consistent in producing a good BIG read. The usual cast of characters shows up here, plus a few new ones. Jack rescues some of Britain's royals in an assassination attempt and the story line comes from that event. Good read.

"Patriot Games" is a fast-paced book about the world of international terrorism. Terrorists try to strike targets in the states. This was unheard of when this book was first published. "Patriot Games" is worth reading today because even 20 plus years after the fact this book has something to say about the true nature of terrorism and how they win by stealing away our small freedoms
