Wow. I loved this book. I haven't cried so hard at an ending since Terms of Endearment. I recommend this book to anyone who needs a human spirit boost! Just, wow.

I loved this book. So much better then then the movie. The movie did not do it justice and cut a lot out.

I saw this movie years ago, probably right about when everyone else saw it. I think I may have liked the movie better. Of course, it had Kevin Spacey in it. I love him...

Anyway, back to the book... I got lost several times in it and had to figure out who was who. Too many characters with too many things going on.

Having said that, it was very touching and it makes me want to go out and do random things for people. The big question is... will I?

... and therein lies the problem.

:)

This novel was made into a movie. A 12-year old boy chooses three people for whom he will do a favor, and then when those people thank him and ask how to pay him back, he tells them that they should "pay it forward" by choosing 3 people for whom they can do favors and in turn these people will "pay it forward" It is a wonderful book.

While different in many ways from the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Very interesting, realistic characters.

Subtle differences from the movie make this book a better story than the film.

Surprising read: quick and light, but with definite deeper meaning and ideas. Fairly true to the movie (the book came first), but better, of course.

I have the movie. Incredibly moving tale of a boy who does nice things for other people who in turn do nice things for other people. Great story for the entire family

I read this book in about 3 evenings. I was up till 3:30 to finish it. If only people could learn to pay it forward.

Three imperfect people, one perfect idea, movie tie in book..Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, started out as a school teacher's extra-credit project...

Pretty good read, but as always the book & the movie are never quite the same ~ the 1 that came out first is always better (at least in my opinion).

If everyone believed and implemented what this little boy had in mind, the world would be a better place. It's quite inspiring.

I loved this book! I quite litterally couldn't put it down and had to finish it in one night. The interweaving of characters was fascinating to read. Having not seen the movie that was based on it I can't say which was better, though just by looking at the casting choices I know that they made a lot of changes. Anyway...

I loved the premise: what if everyone did a favor for three people and, instead of asking for payback, asked the person to "pay it forward" and instead help three other people. If we all did favors and told people to pay it forward, eventually the whole world would be so caught up in trying to remember how many favors they owed to other people that there wouldn't be time for gang violence and wars and all that other stuff. It would be a perfect world.

Different from the movie in many ways. Still, a very good book with strong, realistic characters. I was able to visualize the characters as their true selves and not as the actors who played them in the movie.

It is all a good book can do by way of entertaining story and good morality behind it.

I saw the movie PAY IT FORWARD and liked the movie better than the book. The book was different than the movie in some spots.

I enjoyed this book much more than I enjoyed the movie with Helen Hunt and Kevin Spacey. I guess some things from the book just could not translate well on the big screen.

Written a bit too sweetly for my tastes - but the idea is terrific. Have not seen the movie yet so can't say which is better/worse.

Taken from the back of the book. "It all started with the social studies teacher's extra-credit assignment: come up with a plan to change the world for the better, and do it. Twelve-year-old Trevor McKinney began by doing something good for three people. But instead of paying him back, he asked them to "pay it Forward" by doing a favor for three more people, who n turn would help three others, and so on, each act as a link in a chain of human kindness."
If you have seen the movie but have not read the book yet, please read the book. The book has some major differences and some minor ones. The concept of this touching story is still there. I enjoyed how the Author let each character tell their story. It shows their perspective of what is going on and how they are or are not handing it. I loved the movie, loved the book more.

Interesting story.

A friend of mine spoiled the ending and so I didn't read the book. It has a very good premise--do random acts of kindness for other people and don't expect paybacks. As them to pay it forward, to do more random acts for others.
