I don't know, haven't heard. Did they say where the notice came from?

Could be someone misunderstood something and is passing missinformation down the stream. If it's all fine on the PBS end, then you can help correct it.

I've not found it slow. How's your browser? Do you need to update it?

And according to the PBS statistics, Here the site is still getting books in and are being mailed out. It says 263 books posted in the last 60 minutes, and over 33,000 books mailed out in the last 7 days.

CANNOT BE TOO MANY ON SITE AS SHOWS 1,OOO ALWAYS.

That's how many are logged in at a time. That doesn't include all members. I think somewhere around a thousand it usual. I don't remember it ever being much more than that. A lot of people just come in and out and don't hang around.

The site seems to be the same as it's always been. I'd just let TPTB know about your P.O. problems and maybe they'll have some advice.

Hmmm...don't know Robert--I just mailed out three books in the last couple of days.  Dropped them in the blue box outside work with PBS postage.  All of them have tracking info available when I click on my activity tab.  Also have two books on their way to me--which were mailed with PBS postage.  I can see the info on them as well.  IIRC, when the post office made changes a while ago, one of the changes was that we could no longer track our PBS shipments at the UPS website--tracking info is available here though--maybe that's what your post office was talking about?  I don't think they allow you to see tracking info for media mail from their site anymore.

In regards to your comment regarding "no new books"--I'm not seeing that either.  My wishlist was moving a little slowly a couple of weeks ago--but just had quite a few books posted to me within the last couple of weeks.  I usually keep a stash of about 10 credits, but ended up going to down 0 briefly and had to scramble to find some books to post--currently sitting at 2 credits.  Gotta read a few more wishlist books on my shelf to build of up a credit reserve!

Maybe someone else can confirm this but I thought PBS had a USPS contact that helps with mailing problems. You can try contacting them using the "Contact Us" link below.

The site is loading fine for me, but I have noticed a slow down in my wishlist offers, and I think that's partly due to ereaders.

It might be, although I have much more to trade out when I was thinning my library down and getting ebook replacements. I ended up putting even more into the system than usual until most of them went.

This time of year is always slow. I guess people are on vacations more, and it's just too dang hot to want to get out if you don't have to. I think every year people complain it gets slow during July.

Robert, it's not unusual for post office employees to get policies and procedures wrong--and when they do, they sound very confident that they're right!

Click on the "what's new" link at the upper, right hand corner of any page.  There's info there on some problems that post offices seem to be having with some of the changes that accompanied the last postal price increases.  There's even something you can print out and bring in to your post office, if this really is what your post office is talking about.

I mailed out about 25 books in the last two weeks, many with PBS tracking.  About a dozen or more have come to me, some with PBS tracking, plus more on the way.  In the last month I posted over 100 books. I don't think the traffic on this site is slowing down at all.  And a lot of my books are not the mainstream types (such as romance,  mysteries, NYT "best sellers", etc.).

What Diane said! yes

There's also a "feedback" link on that page to let the Admin Team know how the instructions work for you.

As already mentioned, the USPS problem is more likey a local branch situation than PBS...all is working fine here at PBS.

I also notice sluggish transactions during the summer months, I suspect many members are traveling and spending time with family instead of posting books.  We often see an increase shortly after the kiddos go back to school in the fall.

ETA - When you print a PBS shipping label with DC only or PBS postage...look under the barcode.  It should now say, "USPS Tracking" ... if so, it's all good and your PO staff is misinformed b/c those are completely usable.

Site works fine for me.  Mailed a few books out last month or so.  Must admit tho, I haven't ordered a book here in months because I'm getting everything I want on my Kindle.

Shipped books today - 3 using PBS DC only and they went fine, and I've gotten my QCs for them.  As others have said, it's probably a regional thing.  The whole thing is really simple.  All the clerk has to do is punch in the ZIP Code, then scan the bar code, and it's all there - easy-peasy.  Good luck. Using the proper procedure (and knowledgable staff), the only problem I've had is a (very) few labels have printed out as Media Mail but when scanned at the counter came up First Class.  Since that information is coded into the barcode, there's no way in the new software for staff to change the scan (or none my staff is aware of).  Luckily (so far) the difference has been minimal and I have no problem just upgrading to First Class postage.

That said, we recently moved and I'm kinda dreading trying this with new postal staff....hope they got the memo lol.

I mailed 2 books this week at p.o. with pbs dc on both. P.o. made me pay 90¢ more on each for dc, ignoring our dc arrangement. They did scan my printed pbs dc as well as their own dc tracking and I did receive my quick credit. I thought I only needed to add 20¢. Oh well. Rules change every time I go. Think I will use pbs postage with dc included from now on.

Sometimes you have to be willing to argue with them to get them to do it correctly. Whenever I get the clerks that want to do this (not at my home PO anymore) I point out that the DMM rule 11.1.2 states that the electronic DC price is available when the DC is preprinted on the package, and may be paid for with stamps and meter strips (counter postage), (the Domestic Mail Manual is the USPS own guidelines that are available online).

So, basically, I make them read their own rules. And, if they say that the rules are different (local post offices are not allowed to have rules that are different than the DMM) I ask for that in writing.

Here is the rule as stated in the DMM (in the section for USPS Tracking/Delivery Confirmation) (highlighting mine):

The applicable USPS Tracking/Delivery Confirmation fee must be paid in addition to the correct postage. The retail and electronic option fee, and postage may be paid with postage stamps, meter stamps, PC Postage, or permit imprint. Precanceled stamps are not permitted as postage payment. The electronic price is applicable when customers privately print an electronic USPS Tracking/Delivery Confirmation label or Label 400 and establish an electronic link with the USPS to exchange acceptance and delivery data.

You will notice that there is nothing in there that says that if you bring the package to the counter that you can't have the electronic DC price. Also nothing in there about needing to pay with e-DC via printed postage. (Two common reasons that ill-trained clerks state as reasons why you need to pay 90 cents). In fact, it explicitely states tha tyou can pay for e-DC with stamps and/or meter stamps (counter postage).

I use printable postage with DC on all orders on all 3 sites and haven't had any problems with usps tracking. At the moment there are 1504 members online, a few minutes ago there was 1497. If you aren't seeing that number change perhaps you need to update your browser? or possibly even just refreshing the page will show a change in status.

Personally I'm not posting nearly as much these days with kids home and being out and about more I'm just not reading as quickly. Plus I'm trying to weed out my physical books and trying to use primarily the kindle. It's easier to use when I'm on the go more and not wanting to lug around books. I still order for my kids but I'm really not wanting the clutter of regular books anymore.
