Great illumination of the role of the paratroopers and glider forces on D-Day. Ambrose is a master story teller.

A rousing tale of one of the most dangerous and important small unit actions of World War II. The assault on Point du Hoc got the publicity, but the taking of Pegasus Bridge got the results and saved the D-Day landings. A must read for anyone with an interest in World War II.
Trivia: In the movie The Longest Day, Richard Todd plays Major John Howard, the officer in command of the assault on Pegasus Bridge. During World War II, Richard Todd was actually a member of the commando unit that landed near the bridge in gliders, captured it and held it "until relieved."
