This book is wonderful! My new favorite. As soon as we finished reading the library's copy, I knew we had to own it, so I was pleased to find it on paperbackswap! We also read the sequel, which I didn't expect to be as good, but the author didn't disappoint.
Anne's daughter Sophie
When Rosalind,Skye,Jane and Batty hear that they're going to Arundel they think its some cozy cottage. But they're wrong! Instead they wind up at a mansion! Soon they meet some friends including a gardener that Rosalind finds very attractive and two rabbits. When their new friend Jefferey hears some bad news the sisters decide to try to help him. Will three weeks be enough or will the sisters have to leave Jefferey to his fate? Watch out Arundel here come the Penderwicks!
Meet the Penderwicks, four different sisters with one special bond. There's responsible, practical Rosalind; stubborn, feisty Skye; dreamy, artistic Jane; and shy little sister Batty who won't go anywhere without her butterfly wings.
When the girls and their doting father head off for their summer holiday, they are in for a surprise. Instead of the cozy, tumbledown cottage they expected, they find themselves on a beautiful estate call Arundel. Soon the girls are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel's sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the most wonderful discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel's owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.
The icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffery is, though, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will won't they?
One thing's for sure: it will be a summer the Penderwicks will never forget.
Sweet book about a family of four girls and a father on a summer vacation. They meet the neighbor boy, his mean mother, and her squicky fiancee. It seems the girls can do no right! This book actually reminded me of books from my childhood. Very sweet and innocent.
Wonderful kids/pre-teen book about 4 sisters who have many adventures while on summer vacation with their Dad. I really enjoyed this book. I cannot wait to read it aloud to my little ones. The 4 sisters were all different in personalities and came at their adventures from different angles. The adults were portrayed accurately, at least through the eyes of the kids. I thought the kids were very age appropriate too. The beginning of what seems to be a fabulous series!
My daughter is nine, almost ten, and loved this book. The writing was at her level, the story was appropriate and "spoke" to her, particularly the oldest daughter's unrequited interest in an older boy. This is a charming book, well written with an engaging story.
This book was wonderful. I know it is marketed to a younger audience but after reading the first chapter aloud to my toddler for nap-time I didn't want to stop reading so I finished the book in one afternoon. It is wonderfully told, you lose yourself in the excitement of the sisters and I loved everything about Penderwick honor and MOOPS/MOPS/OAP. Charming story about an adventurous summer, new friendships, standing up for what is dear to you, and family loyalty.

Excellent book in the vain of Five Children and It and The Bastables. It was refreshing to find a book that your children can read and not be worried about the content. I would highly recommend giving it a try. I believe you will not be disappointed.
