Just wondering if anyone has read any of the Pepper Martin series by Casey Daniels...and if so, what did you think?

I have read the first 2 of this series and really liked them.  I read the first one and I could hardly wait to read the second one.  But although I have the others I have not read them yet - I think I got started on the Nicki Styx series and got hooked on them.

I have read the all of these and really enjoy them.  I think they are well written and keep my attention all the way through.  I would recommend them.

I have read all of them and I greatly enjoyed every book except for the last one which was just awful. Pepper is a cute character who is similar to Betsy from MJD's Undead series. These books are more of a paranormal mystery than an urban fantasy but they are quite enjoyable. I would skip the last book though, as it was a huge disappointment. Pepper was out-of-character and the plot seemed tired.

Cheryl, although I have not read this series, your comment made me think of the last book of the Sookie Stackhouse series.  I thought it was just awful.

Carol, I completely agree! Charlaine Harris really rushed the last book. And she incorporated aspects of the TV show that weren't really a part of the book series. I understand that sometimes what works for a novel, especially a long series, doesn't translate as well into a TV show or movie and that some elements have to be changed. But the TV show should NOT have been part of the books just because it has gotten popular and garnered interest in her writings. I love the Sookie books (and the Harper books!) and I even really enjoy (ok, ok, I'm addicted to it) True Blood but I was grosly disappointed both with the length and the content of the last book. I'm going to continue to read them, at least for a little while longer, but I'm starting to wonder if she is going to end up like Laurell K. Hamilton.

I got the chance to meet with Charlaine Harris after a panel at Dragon Con and she seemed super sweet and, quite frankly, blindsighted by her almost overnight success. I know that us avid readers have been loving her novels for a while but the show really expanded her franchise and made her a household name. Now I'm starting to wonder if it was just a bit too much too fast and she feels pressured to keep up. I can imagine it's overwhelming. And the fault's not entirely hers. The editors and publisher didn't do their jobs when they let that last book get published. I can understand why Harris let it slip (not seeing the forest for the trees), but honestly the editors should have seen that something was off way before it went to print.

I've read the first three and enjoyed them.  I liked Pepper up until now.  I hope I'll like book 4 and 5.  But, I agree that Sookie changed and I'm not sure I like the change.  I haven't given up on the series yet though.

I had wondered about this series, now I think I'll give it a try.  On Sookie, I completely agree.  After the last book I felt that not only was she rushed, but that she's going to start tailoring her books in the same direction and hype of the show, which I think the show really has gone off on its own and will be tailored to what people like from the show and/or the fact that Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are engaged.  Sadly, I think that will sway the whole Sookie-Eric-Bill triangle.

I really liked the first Pepper Martin book. I believe I have the first 4 or 5 of them. I loaned the 2nd book to my friend and am waiting to get it back from her so I can continue on with the series. I don't like to read books from the same series all in a row; I need to take breaks between them. I hope I will still like the books even though some of you have said it goes downhill after a few books. I've found that with the LKH books and I'm sad to hear that may be the case with Charlaine Harris. I really hope not with Charlaine Harris!! I have the last book in hardcover and still haven't read it. Now I'm scared to!
