From the inside intro.:

This booklet focuses on pets in the classroom. Through this series of activities children have direct contact with animals over a period of time, and are given many opportunities to observe and compare pets. They learn that pets are fun to watch and that pets respond in different ways to their environment.

Activities include experiences with several science processes. Children are encouraged to observe and compare pets, communicate what they have learned, and draw conclusions from their experiences. During this time the teacher is interacting with the children and guiding them in their discoveries.
