As a kid I was a railroad nut. The older the story was about steam and iron rails the better. So, all the tales from the 1800's were the most interesting and The Phantom Brakeman was one of those that introduced a few of them to me back then. It is still an easy and exciting read for the young rail bound fan. A perfect "all aboard" with nay an axle rolled wrong. Afterwards they will likely be inline for the nearest rail museum to broaden horizons, but until then there will be dreams of the Phantom Brakeman saving the trains on an icy night. I only wish I had the grown up versions to read. Today they seem all too short and that's the only reason for less than an adult 5 stars.
