This is a very slow book, I was really surprised. Most of his books are great but took effort to keep reading it.

This is my first book by David Sakmyster and I immediately got the impression that he may be a work in progress.
"The Pharos Objective" is not a bad book by any means but somehow it just doesn't seem to "gel". The plot and storyline are pretty standard fare...two groups try to uncover an ancient mystery to save the world from something.
Use of the Pharos Lighthouse was original and the remote viewing twist was pretty good, but the story at times left me feeling that something is missing. At times it was sort of like reading a word search book. Additionally, the characters sometimes felt unreal. The ending was just a little too "happy" with the dead reappearing and the cripple walking.
Despite my complaints, I plan to read the other two books in the trilogy just because I am interested enough to want to. Sakmyster has potential and good ideas. I believe he will mature with a bit more practice and be a rival to some of the best adventure writers.
