I just finished tagging my TBR mountain. Over 800 tags - though it's not that many books, some have multiple entries. (Sigh.)

My back is killing me!

Does anyone here use the tag blt? I noticed a lot of overlap with my tags and that one.

I usually tag AFTER I've read them

I needed to tag them so I won't have to plow through the entire pile everytime I order a batch from the book bazaar. :-)

The new feature that shows what lists of yours a book is on will take care of them after I've read them.

I don't get the whole tag thing so I don't use them at all.  I don't see how they can be useful at all.

I have noy used them either.  The new feature shows me what is on my TBR pile.  Before that I had to hunt and look for them before I got a Box deal.

LOL! I saw Willa's blt acronym and before the light bulb went on, I wondered, "Why would you want to tag books 'Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato?"  Oops!  *blush*

I don't know how long this has been there, but I went to check my account settings this morning, and I have the option of turning off tag listings!  I rejoiced.  I realize that the ones with the little red X's on them are your own tags, but unless there's an option to only view your tags without other tags cluttering it up, the feature isn't useful to me.

What *does* it mean?  I'm still thinking it's bacon lettuce and tomato!

gingerkitty - now anything I already have will show up when I see it on someone's bookshelf, and I don't have to go through my books to check.

I can turn off the tags?  AWESOME, I hadn't realized that.

I'm also a bit thick---what is blt?  I've seen it and have wondered.

800 TBR books?!  I can't even imagine that.  WHERE do you keep them all?

Well, I don't know if this applies or not, but the only thing I could think of was bisexual, lesbian, transgender.

It's a far cry from bacon, lettuce & tomato, I tell ya.

Hmmm. Makes some sense, but why tag a bunch of historical romance that way?

Ya got me there!  :O

Maybe there's a different meaning, like "barons, ladies and tsars."  Anybody?

What's the purpose in tagging anyway?

Unless they have the option to see the tags turned off, every member sees everyone else's tags, don't they?  I don't know why that should bother me, but I'm not real sure I like it.  The only reason I would have for tagging is for what Willa mentioned, to keep from redordering books I already have.  When your TBR pile becomes a mountain (like mine), that can be an issue.  What would be nice though, is if that litte TBR tag would show up, even when you're just browsing shelves, and you didn't have to open up the link to whatever specific book to see it.  I hate clicking any more than I have to:P  That's where the personalized tags would come in handy, but I can't see me sitting here and tagging everything I have either.  It's usually a miracle if I feel like just updating my shelf and adding books.

BLT: Bite, Lick & Taste?  That's a Weight Watchers term but I suppose it could apply to some romance books.

I tagged my RL & TBR pile w/my dog's name.  I did it when tags 1st came out because it was handy when browsing BOB shelves and deals.  I delete them when I read a book or order one.  I thought about deleting them all when they added that new feature where it tells you where you have the book. But I plan on emptying my RL before they combine it with the WL.  Too many books on one list for me.  This way I'll be able to just click on one of my tags to bring up the list.

You know, I'm not seeing the new feature when I look at people's bookshelves! So I'm really glad I went with the tags.

Yeah, this was one of the things I checked when I was looking at tagging my books.  If that little TBR was there when I'm browsing shelves - like in the book bazaar - that would be fantastic.  I wouldn't have any reason to tag things.  Like I said, I'm not one for a lot of clicking, so I don't like having to click on the book links to see if it's on my TBR pile.  Tagging would be an alternative - something I could see without having to divert to yet one more page, but I'm still not enthused about keying (not all of the books I have are on one of my lists in the PBS database) in a few hundred books, and then having to turn around and tag over 700.  And tags don't disappear when you trade off a book, do they?  In other words, if I tag a book I have and then someone orders it, that tag stays there unless I remove it somehow, right?  Not so with the little TBR and WL tags.  I get those, trade 'em, whatever, and they're gone.  Again - I wish they'd do something so those showed up when you're just browsing shelves:P
