Philip Galanes is a writer and a attorney. Presently he writes the modern-day advice column, “Social Q’s”, which appears weekly in the New York Times Sunday Styles section. It is one of the most popular features in the paper. He is also working on an upcoming book on “sticky situations” which will be published by Simon and Schuster.

Simultaneously, Philip represents clients in the entertainment, theater, fine art and fashion industries. His legal background includes positions at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton and Garrison and Debevoise and Plimpton. For five years he served as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of Golden Books Family Entertainment, the children’s book publishing and media company. He has also served on the Boards of several publicly traded companies.

Philip has published two novels. Father’s Day, his first novel, published in 2004 (Alfred A. Knopf) was hailed by The Los Angeles Times as "heartbreaking and brilliantly funny." It was also selected by Barnes & Noble for its "Discover Great New Writers" series. Emma’s Table, his second novel, published in 2008 (HarperCollins) was praised by USA Today for "characters that cook with both spice and comedy...and as a bittersweet comedy of modern urban existence."

Philip attended Yale University for College and Law School. He resides in New York City and East Hampton.
