If a package is too big for your mailbox so they put the tan notification to pick up at the Post Office in your box, how long to do you have to pick it up?  While I was having problems with my address (see my Change of Address thread - it's partially resolved now), my neighbor said I could use her address for my PBS shipments.  She didn't mention that she was going out of town for three weeks.  So I had two books and a CD from Swap a CD sent to that address, but now I can't get to them.  Her mailbox is the kind where there is a slot for the mail to be dropped in, but you can't get it back out without a key.  I've been checking the porch for the books, but if they were left there, the landlord (who lives in the other part of the duplex) must have taken them inside.

So if notification was left, how long will the packages remain at the PO for me to pick up?  Also, will it be a problem since my name is on the package, but the address won't match my license?

do you actually have the tan slips?

you can actually request a re-deliver over the web at www.usps.com/redeliver. i think they try at least one more notice after the initial attempted delivery.

Edited: Actually I think the DC # is sufficient, don't need the actual tan slip.

No, I don't have the slips and the books weren't sent with DC.  I can't check her mail because it requires a key.  Hopefully she'll be back this weekend and I can get my books.

About your change of address problem--have you considered just getting a PO box for a while?  At least the USPS should recoginze THAT as a valid address and maybe get that change of address from the old address changed to the PO box?

I have picked up items without the slip and without a DC, but only when it was sent to my address.

Sarah, yeah, I had thought about it.  My address is finally valid and now my address for here.  I got my first piece of forwarded mail today, so hopefully that's resolved.  At this point, I'm just trying to get the last of the books that were mailed to my neighbor.  She got home today and had one book.  There's another book and a CD that I thought would have already been there, but she doesn't have them.  Two more books are heading to her house because PBS uses the address listed at the time you request something even if you change it later.  So I had two WL offers Saturday morning that I accepted.  Later Saturday I discovered my address was valid, so I changed it here.  The books weren't mailed until Wednesday and today, but they were still sent to my neighbor.
