This book comes out in October 2013. It's a true crime story about the murder of Travis Alexander by the hands of Jodi Arias. The trial is in progress in Phoenix AZ. This trial caught my attention because I remembered the news reports when his body was found by his roommates 5 days after he was murdered. Arias was on "48hrs" and "Inside Edition". She is claiming self defense. This man was stabbed over two dozen times, his throat slit from ear to ear and shot in the head.

I don't read true crime often but this book interested me. I was wondering if anyone else has been following this story. I find it very difficult to believe the self defense plea. I've been trying to research this case and follow the trial. Arias was caught in lies and didn't claim self defense until 2 years after her arrest.

If you followed the Casey Anthony trial you know how everyone thought she would be convicted because she lied and the life style she was leading after her daughter was murdered. Some of the media try to compare the cases. I see no comparison.

What are your thoughts of this case?

I find it hard to believe self defense with what the evidence has shown so far.

ETA: I see no comparison because Caylee was found long after her death and Travis was found 5 days later in his shower in the master suite where the murder took place. Also Arias is testifying in her own defense and Anthony did not.

I have been following the Jody trial and commentaries daily on HLN.  It is unbelivable to listen four or five different attorneys offer their views and have such a wide difference of opinion from all!  I think Jody is gaining some sympathy from the jury, and her story of self defense is starting to come together for her.  (not saying I believe it).  Even though she blatently lied at first, telling several versions of what had happened, she presents herself as credible and truth telling on the stand. It could be that this is just her 'gift'.  But...still!  The comparisons to the Casey Anthony trial, I believe, is not in the circumstances of the actual crime, but rather in the similar factors of....  pretty young girl does terrible thing, can she talk her way out of it.... I did not follow much of the Casey Anthony story as it occurred as the death of the baby was just too horrible to be in touch with day by day.  I did watch her trial and the follow ups when she was acquitted.  The media play up is anothe factor in both of these horrible crimes.  You have a media frenzy and a daily account of what these people do, as if they are stars...only time will tell, but I am sure of one thing:  Our Higher Power will have the Final Word.

Deborah, I've been watching the trial on live feed through the internet. I don't know if she's getting jury sympathy. I've seen the photos of what this girl did to him. I find it very difficult to believe her. What abused person would drive from one state to another over 1000 miles have sex, take nude photos, kill her abuser (photos were snapped when the murder was taking place), try to clean up the evidence she was there and go to another man's house and make out with them? (sorry for the long question.  There is so much to this case. She admitted killing him claiming self defense. She lied over and over and over. She is showing signs of a sociopath. She went to this man's memorial service, sent flowers to his grandmother who raised him and his 7 siblings, sent his siblings an 18 page letter, the list goes on and on. I don't believe the jury would let her walk. She tried to plea bargin for 2nd degree murder and prosecution said no due to the cruelty of the crime.

I just pray she gets the justice she deserves.

I agree our Higher Power will have the final word.

Yes, I have watched her antics since day one, also.  The sad and unbelievable gesture of sending the grandmother, (who was a mom substituted to Travis) was indeed, horrific.  I do believe she, in her OWN mind, feels somehow justified in her actions.  I think she will not walk either.  But, just her calm and believable nature on the stand is noteworthy, and is getting some sympathy.  I think she will spend life in prison for her horrible decisions.  Sad as well, is that there are sooo many like her free that do such harm to others!

Yes, I'll read the book. I've been visiting many sites in reference to this case. It was horrific all around. I know she will be convicted, I just wonder if the jury will convict on first degree murder and death penalty. From all I've seen she planned this. I find it very difficult to believe her word on him having a .25 caliber gun. She admitted to shooting him, stabbing him and slicing his throat. After seeing the medical examiner's testimony, and seeing the photos, she slaughtered him. My goodness, the photos I've seen online are horrific. I stilll can't wrap my mind around the self defense as her excuse. She showed no injury except a bandaged finger when she showed up at Ryan Burn's house in Utah less than 12 hours after murdering Travis.

Yes, she does feel justified, but in my opinion she is a scociopath or psychopath. She may have gained sympathy and a few supporters but I doubt there are many. It's shameful for her to claim abuse from this man when she is the one who went to him and stalked him. She has gained a lot of anger from truly abused women and men who have followed this case. She's had 4 years to prepare for this trial. Gone through several lawyers, tried to defend herself like Ted Bundy until she was advised to have legal counsel. She has seen the evidence and has concocted the defense we are watching now. She first denied being there until the detective interviewed her and told her about the proof. Then she comes up with the 2 ninjas story. Now claiming self defense. I think the jury is smart enough to see through her antics.

I do look forward to reading the book even though I've been following the trial and read up on it on different sites. Today is the re-direct.

I don't know at this point if she'll get the life or the death penalty. I do know the prosecution is doing a great job in proving her lies. I love that the jury is able to ask questions. It really gives insight to what they are thinking. The excuses she is giving and her explanation of the crime doesn't match the forensics. She conviently gets a foggy memory or no memory when the questions would harm her but anything that would put Travis in a bad light she remembers clearly.

I'ts coming to an end...soon!  I still think there is some sympathy for her, but yes, the jury's questions are centered around her lying, and some of the facts that are just not able to be discounted.  THEN she said herself the other day at the close of cross exam-"if I get convicted, its due to my own bad decisions"!! wow..this is  a crazy case!

Yes it's a crazy case, even the commentators on HLN say they've never seen a trial with such graphic sexual content. I guess the defense is going to throw everything they can think of out there that will make Travis look bad.
