It seems to me at this point and I am only on chapter 17 that Amy seems a bit too distracted to be the Pink Carnation, now Jane on the other hand seems to be a candidate.

Could it be Miss Gwen?  With her "deadly parasol" and sensible shoes. (probably not likely, but an amusing thought!)

The way the conversation over hot chocloate goes between Eloise and Colin they are making to much out of the fact that the Pink Carnation  is a he.  I guess I am just waiting for something other than bumbeling to go on.

Could the "he" be Augustus Whittlesly, the (bad) romantic poet?  He seems to hold various people "captive" (distracted!?!) with renditions of his silly poetry.

The secondary characters (Eloise and Colin) surprise me a little when ever they pop-up. But because their interaction centers on the story of the PINK CARNATION....I haven't found it too distracting.

I agree.  When the story shifts back to the present I find myself a bit surprised, but I think that the contrast the shift provides adds to the story rather than distracts.

At one point it shifts back and she mentions Pantene shampoo, I thought it was Amy with a blooper! I had to go back and re-read it!

I've been doing a re-read of this book and I'm surprised at how much I'd forgotten. I think my memory is shot!

I usually dislike books that go back and forth in time, but I'm really enjoying this one. I just started chapter 11, so I have quite a bit to go.

I actually have this entire series, but haven't read any other than this one. Really, I have the entire series because I am using it to decorate around my vanity table, lol. I love the cover art on the books and they complement my vanity area perfectly. I have a collection of  antique crystal, glass, porcelain, etc, mini-shoes; the largest one is about 7 inches long. They all resemble different styles of old fashioned ladies shoes; mostly boots and high-heels and they are my most favorite things! My husband made book stands out of some thick wire, painted them, and made them look antique-ish, similar to the stands for the little shoes. The shoes and the books sit together on the shelf my husband designed and built for them to go over the vanity. All of it goes together so nicely and it is my favorite part of out entire house! The art work on these books is just perfect for my little arrangement, so I think I'm going to have to keep this entire series forever, even if I end up hating some of the books. LOL!

For some reason, this book is reminding me of Stephanie Plum.  Amy and Richard remind me of Stephanie and Ranger.  I wonder if there will be a Joe?

I thought the same thing about Eloise and Colin talking over the hot chocolate.  Too much "he" talk.  The PC must be a "she".

I'm halfway through this read along section and am very suspicious of Edward. Something fishy is definitely going on. :) Amy and Richard just met up in the study and they've just dashed behind the curtains. I can't believe Amy doesn't recognize his voice. And did she really think she could hide under his desk? LOL

I had those same questions, Kelly!  Didn't she even describe the desk as something more like a table with spindly legs?  You definitely have to kinda suspend your disbelief and just go along for the fun of it!  I mean, what are the chances that she goes off to a foreign country looking for one specific person that she doesn't even know who it is and he ends up chartering the same boat as her?  Seriously?  None of it is plausible so you just have to play along.

I agree, it is odd that Amy doesn't recognize his voice - so much for her great sleuthing abilities.

I also think the PC will be a woman.

Ok, I think I have it figured out on the voice detection. Later on, she ponders that one's voice sounds different when speaking in other languages. So maybe he's speaking French to her as the Gentian?
