ISBN 0590016555 - Every time I read this story, I think of those poor parents who think every book their child reads needs to send the "right" message - and Pippi's far from that right message! And that's everything I like about her.
Pippi's mother is an angel, her father is a ship's captain who was lost at sea - Pippi believes he's become a cannibal king. She moves into the home that her father had meant for them to live in together, Villa Villekulla, and starts shaking things up for her new neighbors, Tommy and Annika. Pippi is stronger than the strongest man in the universe, doesn't attend school, tells fantastic tall tales and generally does whatever she chooses. She's as funny as you remember her being!
Pippi's always been a bit of the female Peter Pan, but instead of living away from the world, she lives alone IN the world. Message stories are great but, every now and then, a little silliness is more important and Pippi is certainly silly!
I really liked this book because pippy is a fun, smart, and unique girl. i loved geting to know her more as the story went on.
A classic, of course, written around 1950. I believe in giving girls as well as boys strong role models, so I always use this as a read-aloud in my elementary school classes.
she is one funny girl. your little one will laugh out loud.
The beloved story of a spunky young girl and her hilarious escapades. Tommy and his sister Annika have a new neighbor, and her name is Pippi Longstocking. She has crazy red pigtails, no parents to tell her what to do, a horse that lives on her porch, and a pet monkey named Mr. Nilsson. Whether Pippi's scrubbing floors, doing arithmetic, or stirring things up at a fancy tea party, her flair for the outrageous always seems to lead to another adventure.
Who couldn't love the spunky, incredible Pippi? (The title of the book Pippi Longstocking, no "s".)
Oh wow...I was just looking at another book when I saw this down in the suggestion box. I used to have this book as a kid, about 10yrs old or so and I loved it!!!! I can still remember exactly what my copy looks like. Seeing this just brought up memories of sneaking my flashlight under my sheets to read it after I was supposed to go to sleep...LOL.
This is a fun book for any child!!!!! :D
What every 9 year old boy thinks that their first girlfriend should be like. And as for us 53 year old men, well, she owns her own house, and lets you leave the dishes lying about....
Who will challege Mighty Adolph, the world's strongest Man, in a wrestling match? cries the ringmaster.
Who else but Pippi? She lifts him high in the air and carries him around the ring, to the delight of the all the children at the circus.
But then everything about Pippi is strange and wonderful and funny...whether she's teaching two burglars to dance or murdering arithmetic in her one wild day at school.
Hold on to your hat- and your sides. Here comes Pippi Longstocking!(from the back cover)
Pippi is A FAVORITE at out house!
This is a good childrens book.
Wonderful, imaginative book great for reading aloud. My 6 and 8 year olds enjoyed it immensely and we are on to the sequel!
