Outmigration, primarily to New Zealand, has thinned the population from a peak of 233 in 1937 to about 50 inhabitants in 2008.
The Pitcairn Miscellany is the official monthly newsletter of Pitcairn Island and has a mail-order subscription base of about 1000 worldwide. Each 4-page issue, printed on 8-1/2" x 13" paper, includes articles and photographs detailing daily life in this small island community.
