innocent compassion links 5-year-old Claire Maloney to Roan Sullivan, a motherless 10-year-old lad whose life with his drunken, despicable father is a nightmare. This book keeps you wnating to stop whatever you have to do to get back to it. You keep thinking of these people as your day goes on and you can't wait to get back.Claire makes friends with a boy from the wrong side of the hallow..her family is the founding family and his is on the take.He has an abusive father and she is the darling of her family.She is the only person in this town to see the boy-Roan- for being a lonely but great friend..as they grow she tries
to remain remain in his life but her family sends him to a foster home after his Father dies and she loses track of him.This is a great book.

This was a very good book about two children who become friends when tragedy strikes and one of them is sent away only to find each other again in their adulthood. It was one of those books that I had a really hard time putting down.

It was just O.K. for me. I felt that it went on much too long.

Very good read .

This book was very moving. It was the first book that I read by Deborah Smith and I've read most of her books since then. Ms. Smith has a way of touching your heart with very well developed characters who have suffered greatly. I remember crying through many parts of this book and I consider that a testimony to the well written novel. I've recommended it to many others and continue to recommend to all who like well written, involving books.
