Okay, so last night I decided to read the book Show No Mercy by Cindy Gerrard.  When I went to the stack beside the bed, it was missing!  It has been sitting there for 3 weeks, waiting patiently for me to pay attention to it.  Now it is missing.  I've looked everywhere; under the bed, in the closet, under the end table, the bookshelf, etc.  It's driving me crazy!

So....where was the weirdest place you have found a book?  Help me!

(Yes, I looked in the fridge!)

In my sewing basket.  And don't ask me how it got there either.  I still have no idea:P

I have actually overlooked books before, thinking it had a different cover when I just remembered the cover wrong.    I am pretty good at remembering where I put each book, but sometimes my husband will move them and it will take me forever to find them.

Maybe somebody moved it?

I had one last week end up in a stack I was getting ready to post for trade!  I looked there at least 4 times and checked with two people I share books with before finding it!

Behind my computer desk! I was getting ready to read it, but had some computer work to do first.  It must have gotten knocked off somehow and I got sidetracked and forgot all about it.  Later on, I was looking for the book but couldn't remember where I'd put it!  I figured it was like one of the eight pairs of reading glasses I have scattered around the house...I must have picked it up and put it somewhere dumb.  It took me a week to find that darn book and I only found it by accident while I was vacuuming!  I kept running into something and there it was!

In the laundry basket, in the pantry, by the dog food container, under my seat in the car, in my other purse, under my coat, in a discarded grocery sack, with the also missing tv remote control and on top of the refrigerator.  Just a few from over the years.

Under the bed, in the bathroom, in the pantry.

I had one that disapeared completely when I was a teenager. It took me years to realize that my grandmother had taken it away and hid it because she didn't think I should be reading it.  Probably not what happened to yours. :-)

On the bookshelf where it is supposed to be? Honest to God a forum member requested a book and I spent 5 days looking for it. I almost cancelled the request only to find it on the bookshelf, right where it was supposed to be. Sigh.

My next choice would be sitting in some highly visible but totally unexpected place, and you've walked right past it 50 times without seeing it.  This happens to me frequently with all kinds of things; mostly my glasses, but occasionally books too.  I have a tendency to sit things down because something else caught my attention & had to be dealt with right away, and then I can't find them & forget where I put them later on:P

I have it!  I stole and I'm reading it now PPPBBBTTTT!!!

They hide on bookshelves sometimes. I did a deal one time and could not find one of the books someone ordered.  I looked every where. I went though every book on my bookshelf over and over and didn't see it there.  I found it there weeks later when I was looking for something else.

I have 9 cutting boards stacked on their sides on the counter next to the fridge.  Yes, Nine of them.  They are all different size, make and model.  One time my partner put a book I left on the counter cleverly hidden in the stack of cutting boards.  I looked and looked but didn't find it for weeks and by then I had already requested and received another copy so I could finish the book.

You know what's annoying? A few years ago my mom was visiting and she commented that she would go crazy living in our house (she lives in a small one bedroom apt.) because she'd never remember which room she left her book in. I had *never* had that problem until she said that!

I once accidentally threw a few books away! Hopefully that didn't happen to yours!

I'm in the Looked Right At It For Weeks club. I had a request, searched and searched and searched - finally let the mbr know I didn't have it anymore (a buddy, so it hadn't yet been formally requested, thank goodness!) - I decided while I had guests one of them had picked it up to read and moved it or took it. Then one day, there it was, right where I looked, probably there the whole time - and now it's living at my buddy's house!

So my suggestion is to sit down, and look at each book again with new eyes.

I remember just buying the first of the Nauti Boy series and having library books at the same time. I accidently put it in my library bag...returned with my library books. I was sooo mad at myself!  I've found books in the kitchen, under my bed, and recently under the couch. How it got there I have no clue!

Oh Diana: it's so good too.  Would you like me to PM you a paragraph or two everyday?

I just remembered that I lost a copy of a rare WL book once. That irked! I think it must have gone out with the library donations.

I used to pile books on the floor.  Now that I have bifocals, I pile them on tall surfaces such as the mantle, the fridge, top of bookcase, and closet shelf.   At least I'm no longer tripping over them.

Once I returned my book to the library.  Meekly went and asked about it.  The librarian laughed and pulled out a whole box of books.  Mine was in there.

Mary, you are so bad!!!!!!

I have given up.  I shall suck it up and purchase another copy becasue I KNOW that once I do that, I will find the old copy.  The frustration is killing me.  I've torn the house apart and so has my DH (probably to get me to stp whining!) and it has not surfaced.  <grumble, grumble, grumble>

The only good news about this is that I will have 2 copies which means I will be able to grant someone elses wish for this book....and it will be new and never read....well, except by Mary of course!  :P

I found a book wedged between my headboard and the wall!  Have NO IDEA how it ended up there!  It was one of the "sitting on my nightstand for weeks" books...

I have also found books between sofa pillows, in some random handbag I hand't used for months..... among other places.

And of course, the most frustrating place- on my bookshelf!

I once found one of my books inside the microwave. It took me a while to figure out that I had taken my coffee out and placed the book in without thinking! My family still gives me a hard time about that one. Other places: the space between the bed & the wall, on top of the fridge, in a desk drawer, underneath the couch, on top of the pc...and many more places.
