. . . so I created a list I'd love for anyone on this board to partake in! Jo Walton has a series of alphabetical posts on Tor.com wherein she lists the authors on her bookshelves and where she thinks you should start with their work; I did the same, narrowing my focus to science fiction. I made it an open list, so any authors I've left off (for instance, Ursula Le Guin, because I've only read her fantasy) you guys should feel free to add (as long as you select the book you think is the best starting place!) and if you disagree with my choices you should post a comment to try and change my mind (you can also put in your selection, but please don't delete mine!). The list is here: http://www.paperbackswap.com/lists/list_details.php?lid=512

I added several authors/books to the list.  I am still getting used to these lists, so I hope I didn't mess anything up.  If you have a problem with any of my selections, I won't be offended if you delete them.

You did exactly what I want everyone to do! (Well, except you didn't vote for the list. . . which you certainly aren't required to do, but if you like it. . . *wink*)

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of voting.

The voting is to move my list up the page in the "Community Lists" section. . . it's like the "Like" feature on Facebook, except what it does is give the list more visibility. Plus, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. . . ;)

Oh, that.  I meant voting on books within the list to move them up.  Does that do anything?  Just guage popularity?

Oh, in theory I DIDN'T want people to vote on books in the list, because I wanted to maintain the alphabetical order. . . but since the voting has started (and thus I can't manually change the order) then yeah, I guess you can just vote for your favorite titles to move them up in prominence on the list. . .

I think I have too much time on my hands. . .

I also created a list of all the Vorkosigan Saga novels by Lois McMaster Bujold and would love to have anyone who has read the series vote for their favorite title. It's here: http://www.paperbackswap.com/lists/list_details.php?lid=700.

Great list.  I voted for them and they are on my "watched" list.

Still playing around I made a new list -- one that includes all the titles in Gollancz's S.F. Masterworks line. I've input all the titles so far published in the line (through 2010) so PLEASE do not add any titles, as I can't figure out a way for me to remove ones that another member adds incorrectly! But please do vote for your favorites, and feel free to discuss any titles left off in the comments section! The list is here: http://www.paperbackswap.com/Gollancz-SF-Masterworks-Series/list/1380/
