I have already taken care of it so this doesn't need to be going.

Thanks

No, you need to list that book without an isbn.

You would check first to be sure you book is not an Advanced Reader Copy (an ARC), and if not, scroll down a bit on the Post Books page and post it without using the ISBN.

When I enter the ISBN on my paperback, the listing shows a hardcover!

Problem: You enter the ISBN on your paperback and the book Listing Preview says "hardcover".

This means one of two things:

1.  Your book is an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC)

If your book is a paperback, and the ISBN brings up a Book Listing Preview that says "hardcover", please check your book to be sure it is not an ARC.   If it is an ARC, it cannot be Posted for swapping at PBS.

Solution: You can offer this book to others in the Book Bazaar Discussion Forum, but you cannot Post it to your PBS bookshelf.

2. The publisher chose to assign the same ISBN to more than one version of this title.

Publishers sometime choose to assign the same ISBN to multiple versions of a book.  However, PBS can attach only ONE booktype to the listing for an ISBN.  If your book does not have the booktype assigned to the ISBN in the PBS database, you will need to post it with a customized listing, using the Post a Book Without an ISBN link on the Post Books page, so that the booktype matches your book.

Solution: You will need to post this book with a customized listing for the book, using the Post Books without an ISBN link on the Post Books page.

The weight and dimensions aren't a required field when you're posting without an ISBN.  They help the software determine what the postage should be, but you can post without them.  If you have time later, you can add that info by clicking on the book's title, then on "more options", "edit book data."

You should definitely remove the incorrect posting, but you need not throw the book away. The only information you need enter to post the book without the isbn is:

Title:

Author:

Height:

Width:

Thickness:

Subject:

Book Type:

And the dimensions can be an estimate if you don't want to bust out a ruler. It's pretty basic information, shouldn't take more than a minute or two to fill out at the most. Why toss a perfectly good book when it could be worth a credit?

Or...why toss it out when you could offer it on the book bazaar as a freebie?  Lots of times if I am too lazy to enter a book that doesn't have an ISBN, I just add it to my list of unpostables and where I describe the condition I write "perfectly fine, I'm just too lazy to post the book since it doesn't have an ISBN."

I'm sure your poor book would rather find a new home where it will be loved rather than go to the smelly old dump!  ;)

You can get the information from the other PBS paperback listing. Open 2 PBS windows. In one window open the book detail page of the listed paperback and the select Edit Book data from the Other Options menu. In the second window start the post without an ISBN process. Copy the information from one window to the next.

Throwing away a book seems kind of overreaction to not being able to post the book the easy way on PBS. if you just cannot deal with the extra steps to post it, why not donate the book? Or leave it on a table in the lobby somewhere? Tossing a perfectly good book seems pretty silly. There are also other swapping sites that let you post books to their closest likeness, you could try one of them.
