For books that you don't care which version/copy it is do you really need to WL each of them? I want to make more room on my WL and take the extra copies off. I know I would prefer paperback in most things but if I can get the hardcovers faster then that's fine too. One book, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, I have 5 different copies on my WL. I don't know which version will move faster and I want that book ASAP.  Both of my parents have suffered massive strokes and this is a very important book I want to read (along with other stroke books). Since it's being (or has been) turned into a movie I guess this book has become kind of popular. I have a couple of other books like that. The hardcover I may be first in line but the paperback maybe goes around more? Not really sure how I should handle this.

Ideas?

You can put on on your WL and the others on your RL and just check in a lot to see when any of them are available to order.

I know that putting on all the editions take up WL space, but when you do get one then they all come off at once when you get a copy.

For an important book, I'd give them the WL space if you really want one ASAP.

If I put the others on my RL wouldn't I lose my place in line? So if I'm #200 out of 500 it probably wouldn't be a good idea, right?

I agree with Cindy--for a book you really want, put several versions on your wish list.  You can't tell which one will come up first.

And yes, if you move them to your reminder list, you'll lose your place in line.

Just a note: there's no point putting books with the short little ISBNs (7 digits or fewer) on your wish list, since those are unique identifying numbers generated by the site (when a book is posted without an ISBN) and appy to only one copy of the book.

yes, if you move them from your WL to your reminder list it would take you out of your place in line....I would leave them on my WL if they were something that was important to me to get

That is correct, you won't be holding a place in the line on any copies you remove from your WL. The only way to be in line on all copies is to have them all on your WL. If you do not have room, you will have to pick which you want more or think you will get faster. The system sees all these books as different so there is no way for it to see that a wish for one is a wish for all versions. It does make for some messy wish lists.

One thing that might help free up some room on your WL - make sure you aren't WLing versions with the short PBS assigned ISBN. These numbers are meant for one time use only and aren't supposed to be used again. The only time a book should be posted to them is if someone received one through the site and reposted it from their TBR or bookshelf-on-hold lists. I noticed that Kite Runner was like that. The version you have WLed isn't a complete ISBN which shouldn't ever be posted to while the system has copies available of the same book posted under the full ISBN.

Tiffanie:

I don't have a copy of this book, but I was thinking if you just want to read the book and are willing to accept an unpostable copy of it, maybe you could put a request in the Book Bazaar for it. There might be a member who has an unpostable copy and wants to get rid of it either for free or with another order from their shelf.

You might want to check out the sticky thread at the top of the bazaar.  It is a thread for people to post their damaged books that they are willing to give away.  They may have one of your WL books in there.  I haven't really checked it in a while so I'm not sure what all is available right now.
