My daughter is 3 years and 3 months. She LOVES to be read to, and she's interested in chapter books that have pictures. We've started the Little House on the Prairie books, but what other books have your very little ones enjoyed?
Thanks in advance!
I would try the Nicholas books by Goscinny and Sempé. These books were written in French and translated to English so your little one might pick a bit about another culture while you're reading. These books are definately made for younger children.
I would consider the some of the illustrated classics like Secret Garden and A Little Princess (both are right at that age range).
The Beverly Cleary books are still favorites, although we aren't looking at pictures on every page here (I would especially think about Mouse and the Motorcycle and Ramona books here).
Another thing you might want to consider for quick and fun reads is the poetry of Shel Silverstein. Anytime I'm around my neice I am still expected to read no less than 3 poems to her before bed (it's been a tradition since she was a baby, she's 9 now and I think has the whole book memorized).
Let me know if you need more ideas, I'm sure I can come up with a few but this should get you started.
Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne. NOT the Disney version, the original with illustrations by Shepard. Try the poetry ones too, like When We Were Very Young
Rabbit Hill by Robert Lawson
It's great your three year-old has the attention span for chapter books!
