Hi,  Are there any good recommendations on new authors or books I can try that have heroines who for some reason have to masquerade as either someone else, a boy, or a maid due to some reason.  Also, I love books where the heroine is really tough and mouthy and can look out for herself  but is thrown by circumstances into needing some help by a hot hero.

Thanks!

Night Game by Christine Feehan (its 3rd in a series but this one meets your criteria), Hit Hard by Amy J. Fetzer is another.

try 'all jacked up' by penny mccall for smartmough/sarcasm! I can't say the woman could 'take care of herself'but the hero wasn't much better under the circumstances! Just started  the next one by that author'tag, you're it' and it seems to be similar with a non-woosy woman. also tara janzen's 'crazy' series has a woman named 'skeeter' who appears in all the books. her'story' is in crazy love but she's pretty kickbutt in crazy wild too in places, esp  near the end. this whole series is awesome IMOall similar yet a tad different. starts with crazy hot, crazy cool, crazy wild, crazy kisses(if you like tough women the  main one in this will probably bug you cause she's an artist and guns freak her out..a good combo considering she's in love with a mercenery/soldier/sharpshooter LOL), crazy love, crazy sweet..crazy sweet I think has a tough woman too but haven't finished crazy love yet and that one comes after love...I know there are more but can't think of them offhand..

If you want a historical "Gentle Rogue" by Johanna Lindsey it's an oldie but a good book. The heroine masquerades as a cabin boy on a ship and of course, the hero is the captain.

In All I Need is You by Johanna Lindsey (an old west romance) the heroine is a bounty hunter dressed as a boy. Although if you are interested in reading this I suggest reading A Heart So Wild first, the story of the heroine's parents and my absolute favorite Johanna Lindsey book.

Liz Carlyle's A Deal With The Devil was a favorite for me.  A lady in hiding as a housekeeper.
