*****I loved this book. I like British p.i. and police procedurals and this is the former. It reminded me in some small way of the Munch Mancini (Barbara Seranella) series. It starts with a down-and-out guy trying to crawl back from the depths. A twist in fate throws him in the path of some detective work and before you can say "follow that car" he's in the middle of a murder mystery. The newbie detective is British P.I. Sam Turner, and he's not your typical hero. He's a bit rough around the edges, hasn't yet decided how to treat
women who are nice to him, but smart enough to stay one step ahead of the criminal..... so far. He meets all sorts of interesting characters that he makes part of his crimesolving team. Very entertaining. Oh, and like some of the Prey (Sanford) series you know who the murder is pretty quickly, and part of the thrill of the book is watching the murderer watch Sam.
When I finished the book I wrote in my journal "Very nicely done. I'm thinking of throwing over all my other series and looking for the next one in this one. (Sorry Elvis, et al)"
