Claire Malloy, bookstore owner, part-time sleuth, and full-time single mother, isn't quite sure she's ready to handle her big 4-0 birthday or her teenage dauther, Caron. the Kappa Theta Eta sorority, which happens to be housed right next door to the Malloys, has just recruited Caron to be a My Beautiful Self, Inc. consultant. But beauty makeovers may not be all the sorority girls are specializing in.

This is another of Joan Hess's Claire Malloy Mysteries. Her writing style is humorous and her characters well developed. An enjoyable read, whether it is the first book in the series you read or the 8th.

This one just annoyed the heck out of me. I still love the books, but they are getting more and more confusing. Again, the murderer really isn't clear. I shouldn't say that. The murderer is, but the reason isn't. It's all about a sorority that is just sickeningly sweet. Until one member ends up dead and another one is blamed. Claire finds out the "sisterhood" isn't as great as it appears. And these are her next door neighbors!!

Claire Malloy, bookstore owner, part-time sleuth, and full time single mother, is't quite sure she's ready to handler her big 4-0 birthday or her teenage daughter Caron. The Kappa Theta Eta sorority, which happens to be housed right next door to the Malloys, has just recruited Caron to be a "My Beautiful Self, Inc." consultant. But beauty makeovers may not be all the sorority girls are specializing in. To add to the horror of Claire's graying hair, one of the KTE sisters is killed in the dark alley next to the sorority. The cops rule accidential hit and run, but Claire isn't so sure and decides to investigate the crime herself. As she digs deeper into the case, Claire discovers that the sisters' acitivities are not as sweet and innocent as the sorority's pink colors might suggest. For Claire Malloy, it's going to be a heck of a way to spend the lazy, hazy days of the craziest Farberville summer she's known yet - that is, if she makes it through alive.
