One of our local newspapers includes items from 100 years ago. Here's the one from today:
100 years ago,1911
Becoming frightened on Park Street early last evening while the mail carrier was out of the sleigh, the horse of one of the local mailmen started up the street on the run and turned in at the post office. Another mail carrier's team was there and the horse, frightened at the other runaway, started in another direction, going up Ash Street.
Mail was thrown along the streets and one of the sleighs was badly smashed. No one was injured and the mail was quickly picked up, none the worse for the incident.
Haha! I think I'd like to see my mail delivered by sleigh. A horse and sleigh would have come in handy last week when the trucks couldn't drive down any of our unplowed secondary roads.
