I would like to get some feedback from members about ink markings on the bottom edge of a book.  My local UBS has periodic clearance-type sales in which they mark the bottom of the book (page-edges) with a black X made with a marker.  Occasionally they mark the inside cover in the same manner.  These markings do not occur/show on text pages.  I am wondering if people would mind receiving a book marked in such a fashion.  I have received books myself with a marker dot on either the top or bottom edge of the book.  So, what do you think?  Thanks for your help!

That is called a remainder mark and it is completely postable.

Markings on page edges are Reminder Marks, and considered postable.  Writing on inside of covers is postable, and writing on pages other than text is also usually considered postable.  Writing on text pages is not postable.

The Team has even determined that a name written on the page edges is postable.
