I just received the 6th Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in today.  It is a hardback book, and I'm not sure if this is considered postable or not.  The book has 'coffee-mug stains.'  There is a clear ring where a coffee mug or some sort of glass was.  Is this considered water damage to the cover, or is it okay?

My two main questions are:

1) Do I mark it as received with no problem?

2) If I mark it as received in good contion, can I repost it?

TIA!

According to the rules, stains are NOT allowed (unless it's a cookbook).  Whether or not it's considered "water damage" really is a moot point.  Any kind of stain like that would make it received with a problem & not be considered in postable condition.

So would I then need to mark it RWAP?

I've never had a problem with my books before, and feel kind of bad to do it haha!

Just to confirm, these stains are on the book and not the dust jacket? Stains nor liquid damage are allowed on the book and would be RWAP and could not be reposted. The dust jacket though, is not required so its condition should be considered unless you have a Requester Condition asking for a dust jacket. Once there is an RC requiring the dust jacket, then the same posting requirements that apply to the book apply to the dust jacket and it could not be stained or liquid damaged either.

The dust jacket didn't come with the book.  The stain is on the actual book.

So, I need to mark it as RWAP and not repost the book, correct?

Thank you for all your help!

Yes, mark it as Problem - Damaged By Sender, explain that books cannot be stained/liquid damaged and the book arrived with some type of beverage ring on it making it unpostable.

You cannot repost the book into the system. If the sender wants the book back, they need to pay return postage (often done by sending an extra credit). You could offer the book in the Book Bazaar for a credit.

Correct.  When you mark the book RWAP, you have the option of asking for your credit back but that isn't required. It's up to you as to whether or not you want the sender to credit it back to you.

In some situations when I have marked RWAP I've asked for the credit back & others I haven't asked for it.  If a book has been in really bad condition, then I've asked for the credit back.  It's just up to you on that.

Fortunately I haven't had to mark many books RWAP, but I think most of us get a book here & there that isn't in postable condition. sad

If its liquid damage, its unpostable. If its faded from the sun, then it would still be post able.

You need to ask for the credit back since the book is upostable. It is stained, which is against the rules.
