I hit the wrong key and subject was added but not content!

Anyway, I bought a used copy of Gone Girl - it is a paperback, but I didn't notice until I got home that the binding is coming loose, like someone opened the book all the way when they read it and probably used something to hold it open.  But all the pages are there, and otherwise is in good condition.  Anyone?

It depends what you mean by "the binding is coming loose."  Are the pages detached or becoming detached?  Is the spine cracked?  Can you post pictures or find pictures online with similar problems?  I don't feel like I have enough info to answer at this point.

I would say no. From the help docs:

Binding:

  • Must be intact, with no separation on the inside or outside of the book

There's a Damaged Books thread in the Book Bazaar forum but I don't think you can ask for a point for it.

I'm sure it's still wishlisted.  You could post it in the unpostable wishlist thread for a credit.  Just be sure to note the damage.

Saying pages are coming loose means a definite NO. But the rest of your description sounds postable. Here is the PBS Team's answer to an inquiry about cleaved spines and postability issues that often helps:

Dear Kim,

We would not consider a pinhole to be a cleaved spine. Books that fall open to a specific
page are postable, and almost every paperback book that does that has at least some small separations.

What matters here is if the pages are securely attached. If they are likely to fall out on the next reading, then the book should not be posted. We really cannot clarify this any further. We need members to use their common sense and best judgment about whether a book is about to fall apart or not. This is just not something we can judge without having the books in our hands.

from this thread: http://www.paperbackswap.com/What-Cleaved-Spine/topic/150725/

Damaged unnpostable books can be offered in the Book Bazaar for a credit, as long as the damage is described and the trade is arranged outside of the system (address PMed, credit transferred via the Give Credit button). There is only one thread there that credits cannot be asked for on damaged books because it is for giving away books.

She didn't say pages are coming loose, she said the binding is coming loose, which is why I asked for more info.
