If there is a way to purchase the correct amount of postage for a media mail package, I haven't found it.

It seems the machines don't offer the media mail option when you are weighing in a package, neither will they let you select a specific dollar amount of postage.

Does anyone know a secret method?  It's eluding me....

The scale on the counter has a media mail button. or you could print out the Media Mail rate table and by weighing the books, you will know what the cost is. Then use the Buy Stamps option on the machine, the next screen will offer some stamp denominations, and an other button, click the other, enter the amount, then it wll ask how many stamps. Click one and it will print the postage amount on the little stamp and you can stick it on the package and mail it. Here is the Media Mail rate table and the First Class rate table. Books under 7 ounces will cost less to mail First Class.

Thanks, this was helpful.  There was no "media mail" option on the scale at the package machine, and where I live there is not a counter scale that you can use on your own.  But I certainly had missed the "other" option for buying postage, and after the response here I bundled a bunch of books into the car and headed out to try it (okay, it was 3 a.m.)  Success!

Since my mail carrier refuses to pick up media mail and I can't get to the post office during their business hours, this will save me mucho hassle.  Thanks again.
