Anyone know anything about this? Maybe I'm the last one to know, but thought I'd post! LOL Since I started printing postage at PBS it's a non issue since I get instant credit for my book,  but I mailed something today and printed postage from PayPal and PayPal offered this form to print but I had no idea what it was so I didn't print it.

Anyway apparently anytime you buy online postage now and you use delivery confirmation that you need scanned when you DROP IT OFF (ie: need an "acceptance confirmation")  at the post office you need to fill out form 5630. So I'd see where one would need it at PBS for quick credit if you aren't purchasing the postage as well so you'd have to fill it out manually.

Otherwise DC will only be scanned when the package reaches it's final destination unless you get a nice postal worker that will just scan it anyway. :0) This one was nice but  the post master was watching so she had to tell me the new rules. Of course that's what DC is..confirmation of delivery, but I like to see it accepted into the system at least.

Here is more info from USPS

The only thing that bugs me is (regarding click n ship or paypal, this doesn't apply to PBS) I don't always print shipping labels at the same time but might mail things on the same day, so since I don't print labels in a "batch" I'd still have individual forms for each package. Why not scan the package then? Ah well!

Yes, the SCAN form is used when you are mailing multiple packages using online postage (which includes DC.) The mail carrier or window clerk can then scan the SCAN form, and all packages will be Accepted into the system. This saves the window clerk some time (especially helpful for those in line behind you), and is especially useful if using Carrier Pickup (when the packages otherwise would not get scanned Accepted/Pickup.) I have never personally used it or even seen one. All I know about it is what a saw in a short video that all carriers watched. As for printing your shipping labels throughout the day rather than in batch, according to the instructions on the page you linked, all you have to do is check "Add to SCAN Form" before printing and then print the SCAN Form after printing all your labels for the day (though I have a feeling that may apply to Click-N-Ship but maybe not for PayPal.)

I have seen the form but I have not printed it myself. It will only scan with the hand held scanners so if you do decide to print them and the clerk has trouble...

When the new price change started in May, they also added a new function to the POS computers used in many post offices. It is a pre-paid mail acceptance key. I have been scanning as many packages as possible as I get them through the day. I miss some of the end of day drop offs in order to send them out on the truck. This is supposed to do the same thing although I have not taken the time to look and see what the scan says after I do one.
