Would anyone happen to know of any reasonably priced postal scales and where to get one? The $50 that the PO by me charges seems to be much.

A scale is a scale is a scale.  Any scale that accurately weighs for you will work.  I use a food scale for stuff up to 1lb.  I did indulge in an electronic scale, bought it on Ebay for about $20.

$50 ???  Wow--I bought a food scale for well under $10.00, it's not fancy but it works just fine.

Yeah, $50. It's automatic and measures up to 10 lbs though. I would obviously need something that measures at least 5 lbs. The least expensive I found on eBay was $40.

I bought an electronic scale at our local dollar store for $3.99 and it works great. I keep looking for more every time I go in so I can pass them on to people here, but so far they ahaven't got any more in.

I got an electronic food scale (would work perfectly well for postage too) at Wal-mart last year.  I actually use it to weigh artifacts in my lab work in Mexico.  It works with a 9-volt battery that seems to last forever.  It can weigh up to around 5 pounds, I think.  I don't remember the exact cost, but I think it was in the $15 range.

There is a scale for sale in the PBS kiosk. It is $24.99 plus,I think, $8.95 postage. I just bought one and it works fine.

I got one from Walmart and it works fine for me too.  It is exactly like the one in the kiosk, but mine only goes to 3 pounds and the one in the kiosk goes to 5 or 6 pounds.

I found quite a variety on amazine. 4-5  for less than $15.  Some only go up to 1 lb (which I think is too low) but most are between 5 and 11 lbs.  Just type in kitchen scales and filter from there.

I bought an Ultraship 35# from this ebayer in September and I'm very happy with it and it was shipped quickly: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZscalebargains  If you spend about $10 more you can get one that weighs up to 75#.
