Recently I was purging my shelves of books that had large numbers posted. I went book by book thru my posted bookshelf looking them up by ISBN #. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that about 20% of my "posted" books weren't posted...I know I posted them, some I specifically remembered doing so yet in the intervening months/years they had somehow been dropped off my bookshelf! I've always been curious whether it was a glitch affecting just my bookshelf or if others have encountered this?

I've had books I thought I posted, put them on my shelf, etc., and then when I double check (which I do periodically), find that I really hadn't posted it at all. Pat

I've had the same issue, Sally--  Only with a few books though.

I had the same thing happen just yesterday when I went to my shelf to remove a book someone wanted in my 3 for 1 deal and the book wasn't there any more.  I had checked my whole shelf a week ago and it was there then so I don't know what happened.  Maybe the "book fairies" come at night and remove them!!!

Sally, try this: Go to your Transaction Archive (accessed from your My Account menu, or from the yellow bar near the top of your main My Account page. Sort your archive by "Books requested from me" --> "Canceled by sender" --> "Title" --> "Ascending".  This will show you books that were on your bookshelf at some point. Someone ordered them, and you canceled the transaction. You might have actually clicked that you couldn't send the book, but it's also possible that you didn't respond within 5 days when the book was requested, or that you responded, but didn't mark the book mailed before the deadline. When a transaction is canceled by the sender, it is removed from the sender's bookshelf.

Once you've compared that list to your list of missing books, if it doesn't account for all the books, re-sort your archive by "Books requested from me" --> "All Transactions" --> "Title" --> "Ascending". If you find additional books on your missing list, let your mouse hover over the symbol on the left of the transaction for more info.

If you still have unexplained missing books, that would be unusual, and the Admin Team would want to know. Send them Feedback using the "Contact us" link under "Company" at the bottom of any page. Be sure to include the titles and ISBNs.

i donated a large number of books to my library recently.   When I went to delete them from my bookshelf, I found that 41 of them were not even on my bookshelf, even though I am 100% certain I posted them.  No wonder they weren't being requested!  Is there a system glitch?

Patty,

That's a really irritating problem.   If you turn down a request because it didn't meet requester's conditions & it drops off your shelf with no notice.  Is PBS working on fixing this?

Patty, none of the circumstances described applied to me, books were just randomly dropped. Unfortunately, I did not keep a list of which books they were so I can't provide anything to TPTB. If this occurs in the future I will be sure to do so.

I don't think anyone is saying that if someone turns down a requester condition the book is dropping off your shelf, but if someone accidentally hits the cancel button instead and doesn't realize it. Two different buttons, on leaves it on your Bookshelf, the other (Cancel) removes it.
