Is there a way to make a poster's signature line not viewable?  There are a few posters here with signature lines that contain beefcake pictures of men.  I was at the Senior center yesterday working in their computer lab and found it embarrassing to be on this forum with other people in the room.  One guy came to sit down at the computer next to me and saw the pictures.  He gave me a really weird look and I quickly left the site.

Also, I really don't understand the reason for these pictures in a signature line.  I can see having pictures of your family or pets, but I can see no reason for pictures of mostly naked men.

Kate, you can turn off seeing all signature lines under your account settings or you can click on the "Ignore this member" when you see that member's post. You can't turn off just the signature line for one specific person.

Just taking a shot here - but I think some people find them decorative.

I think if I got all the men organized, we could put photos of nearly naked women in all our signatures, and then TPTB would probably make a rule you can't have steamy pictures.

Or, like Christina said, you can turn off signatures in My Account->Settings->Forum Settings->Show Other Members signature images.

Either way. Just let me know if you want all us guys to put smutty stuff up. And send us images to help us get started.

Lol.  I like beefcake pics myself, but some of them can be a little eye-popping even for me.  I've seen a few that just grossed me out - and that's hard to do, btw:P  My pet peeve is the blinkies.  Some of them remind me of the old Las Vegas strip footage.  My suggestion would be to just turn them off.  Keep in mind that a lot of the ladies who have a lot of beefcake in their sigs do most of their posting on other forums where the sigs are more appropriate to the general ambiance.  Wish I could think of a better way of putting that, but atm, it's the best I can do:P  Nobody deliberately puts them in their sigs to shock & offend, and the PBS team does draw the line at photos in your avatar, which other posters are stuck with seeing, as there are no settings to filter them out.

I don't see the signature pictures, but I do see text in signature lines.  I chose to turn off the photos in signature lines because the blinkies and moving photos  give me a headache.  I still like to see what people are offering for unpostables or for links in those signature lines.  You don't have to turn it completely off.

Rick - have you seen my blog?  I can put toogether a nice starter kit if you would like, but I have a feeling you're right and it would cause an uproar and spoil all of Mary's fun.

Because siggy section can be turned off, TPTB censor very little (if any) in those areas (pics or comments that could be viewed as offensive).

Rick - have you seen my blog?

You mean your blog with all the sketches and washes of  people in various states of dress/submission, and links to watercolors with names like "Falling Nude with Penguins"?

...

I can't recall.

You left out "Zombie With Flasher."

But yes.

And thank you.

Well I am one of the beefcake women.  A lot of us have pictures of women as well (I don't at the moment) so it probably wouldn't bother any of the beef cake picture putter uppers if you guys did that.  If you look in teh games forum many of them have scantily clad women as well as men.

Woman have been subjected to seeing nearly naked women everywhere for a long time now. I don't think some beefcake pictures on this forum is a big deal.

Just turn off siggy pictures and you won't need to see them. I miss seeing some of the members grandbabies as they grow, but too many siggy lines were inappropriate for me to have visible on my work machine so I just shut them off. I certainly don't miss the blinkies either - though some were funny, they were migraine inducers.

I was thinking the same thing, Mary.  There are times when it seems like (barely adequate) payback for decades of blatant sexism:P  I shop at Victoria's Secret, but I seriously doubt that the target audience for their commercials is the average female consumer.  And just from my own POV - I'm not really interested in seeing pics of everyone's pets & family.  Some are cute & all that, but to me they're just flair; a means of self-expression, which I'm all for.  The only issue being that there should be a way to filter that out for people who don't want to see it, which tptb have provided here.

I hate blinkies!  But I tolerate them because I like the signature pictures.

I don't think some beefcake pictures on this forum is a big deal.

It's just kind of weird because most of the pictures are of me.

ROFL Rick

I don't find the pictures bothersome BUT I think I'd turn off the siggies IF I were looking at PBS with some of my elderly friends.  WAIT - some of my friends period - it isn't just the elderly that might find them slightly bothersome.  That's the great thing about PBS - we have choices.

Exactly, Cozi!

I have mine turned off because of my :::SHINY OBJECT!::::: issues.  I just find it really difficult to focus on anything with all the pictures.

If I see anything blinking I just hit "Esc" and it freezes them.

Kate, you also have the option of ignoring individual members.  Just use the "Ignore this member' link at the lower right-hand corner of one of that member's posts.  You can "unignore" at any time and you can even read individual posts from an "ignored" person with the click.   I like blinkies, so I don't want to shut them all off, but this is how I handle the excessive beefcake issues.  Sorry, but, men or women, I think they go over the top and I have always been disappointed that TPTB don't put some sort of restriction on them.

I'm glad to learn the images can be turned off without the signatures being turned off...I've found many of the beefcake pictures offensive...don't like the nude women pics either...glad to know I don't have to look at what I consider inappropriate material any longer.

Another option is not visit this site, or other potentially embarassing sites, whilst at a work place where concerns maybe be raised.

I turned off images in signatures almost right away when I joined PBS.  The blinkies give me a migraine.  I really don't think I miss much at all.
