Predatory Game, the next book in the Ghost Walker Series by Christine Feehan came out today. Has anyone got it yet?

Summary:

Saber Wynter is running from her past when she meets Jess Calhoun, an ex-Navy SEAL who is physically and emotionally compromised by his own mysterious and violent history as a GhostWalker. What Jess senses in Saber is a kindred spirit, a lost soul desperate for sanctuary. He offers her a home, job, and a haven where she can safely reveal the secrets that shadow her. But danger follows her, too. Now, the riddles of both their pasts are about to collide, shattering the promise of their future with the ultimate betrayal.

I bought it Sunday but since I still have not started the series at all, it will be awhile before I get to it!  I had books 2-5 for a long time but got stiffed on book 1 (the person never mailed it despite indicating she did and then cancelled her membership) so I had to order and wait for it all over again.  I've just not gotten around to starting it since then!

I have it ordered from my book club, but they haven't sent it yet.   Have read all her books from Ghost Walkers, Drake Sisters, Carpathians, and Leopard and love them all!!  Can't wait to get this.

I got it in the mail from Amazon yesterday, I am planning on starting it as soon as I'm done with lunch. I have a whole three hours before I have to go get the teen for tutoring. I hope it is as good as the other Ghostwalker books!

If anyone wants a head start, she has the first chapter posted online.

I think this one might be a little bit different tone. The main hero is Jess, the one in the wheel chair, who was severely injured in a previous book. I'm sure he's still involved with the Ghostwalkers and super-macho, but he's not one of the current in-the-field-guys. And the book starts with him and the girl already together (as friends of a sort).

For those of  you who haven't started the series, I'd definitely recommend reading them in order. Characters transition from book to book and it's nice to  have the continuity.

I, too, have read all her books and enjoy them immensely.  But the plots are often somewhat repetetive. Maybe a bit of time separation is good for those of us who have to wait for the next story.  A reading binge on these with several in a row at your disposal might get old. Then again, it might be fun.

I'll get my copy this week. Maybe tonight.

I have it and I'm in the midst of reading it.  I'll reserve comments until I finish.

Okay, I finished my copy (by the way, Leslie, purchase at Walmart. But it was with the current releases, not the romances in our store.)  I'll add some comments without spoilers (at least for now).

As the rest of you chime in, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being excellent) - what would you rate this book?

I thought it was pretty good. It didn't have the edge and excitement for me that the others did, but I think much of that was the setting and her perhaps trying not to repeat the exact formula.  I liked both the main characters. There was definitely some chemistry there but it just seemed a bit slow to kindle. Both were likable. There was an awful lot of soul searching and angst on each side. Sometimes I just felt like yelling at them, "will you two just get together and get on with it!".  Lots of mind games about Whitney. Seems like that part is getting pretty convoluted. Circles within circles.

I liked the glimpses of past characters in the book. But that's one of the attractions of this series, the continuity of secondary characters and the continuation of an overall storyline.

How to rate it is tough to decide. I think I'd give it about a 7.

I still haven't finished but I will say one thing that irritated me in the first half - all the comments on how big and strong Jess' arms were.  I get it Christine Feehan - he's a hottie who works out.  But I swear I was seeing 'bulging biceps" every other line.  And I still haven't figured out how old Saber was -and some of the descriptions of her as young and tiny and fragile gave me a ick feeling when Jess was lusting after her.

Yeah, I agree on that. A lot of repetition.

Years ago, I dated a guy in a wheelchair who had enormous upper body strength. Played a lot of athlethics and all that.  Some of the scenes in the book about Jess and his chair, especially the way he moved in and out of it just didn't feel right. Oh well, it's fiction - time to suspend belief, right?

There's a scene where he and Saber go to a bar and he's thinking to himself that she may not understand how leathel he is but he's already checked out ever man in the place, knows whose likely to be a problem, who has a gun, can tell you every car in the parking lot, yada yada...

I swear she used that exact same paragraph in one of the other books. it was major deja vu!

You are right at bout Saber's age.  It seems like she was deliberately kicking up speculation. There was one conversation where a woman remarks how Saber makes herself up to look older than she is.  I was reading really fast - skimming some parts. Threre was a point where I wondered if I'd skimmed too much and misunderstood the attraction pieces early in the book and there was going to be some big plot twist where she turned out to be his unkown daughter or little sister or something.  On the one hand, it seeemed like she was leading up some revelation like Saber was only 17 or something. (She's not.) On the other,  the growing interaction between them was definitely adult. Kind of weird. (And kind of creepy at times.)
