A little different style than most of Dana Stabenow's other books. It is very current with terroristic threats occurring. This book is set in Florida, not Alaska, like the kate Shugak stories.
This is a stand-alone by the author of the Kate Shugak mystery series. More fast-paced and action-driven than the series novels, this one is more thriller, involving a terrorist cell, NASA and the Coast Guard, than mystery. Stabenow sets the scenes, introduces the primary characters and enough of their backstories to get you involved, then sets the action rolling. You'll find it a hard book to put down; it's an edge-of-seat ride, and well worth the trip.
This is a fantastic book! It gives many insights into the work and workings of the men and women of the 5th major service branch, the Coast Guard. AND there is a terrorist plot AND family intrigue AND some romance all tangled up together. Another Stabenow winner. A fine side trip from the Shugak and AK trooper stories.
