I have a WL book that I want to post directly to a specific member.  That member wants to preserve the footprint/passport thingy for this specific copy.  Is there a way to do that?

If you post it to their WL it should be in the system.

The book is currently on my bookshelf on hold with the footprint showing three other people.  If I unhold it, is it going to just go FIFO?  If I go the person's WL and post it to them, is it going to pick up the footprint of the book that is on hold on my shelf??

I don't think you can preserve the past footprint information when you post directly to someone. You need to pick the book from one of your lists and hit the post button to do that and that will send the offer into the system not to her.

Okay,

I went and checked some things.  I never put a book on hold on my bookshelf.  I looked at a book I received a year ago and mailed out recently, and although it was never on my bookshelf (I posted directly to another member) the footprint is there to me, including me and after me (apparently she's already passed it on).

Hope this helps.

I've posted them directly to a WL without removing from my bookshelf.  After all, most of the books received go automatically into bookshelf hold unless you check for them not to.  The passport transfers without a problem.

The only problem I've had is when I have two copies of one book.  (Such as a lost book arriving.)  Then the wrong passport sometimes gets posted.
