This book has a slow start but is well worth the time to read. It is more mystery than romance both of which Mariah Stewart writes well.

Another fast reading books by Mariah Stewart. Attractive & independent at thirty, Dina McDermott is on top of the world...until she makes a shocking discovery: She is the illegitimate daughter of former president Graham Hayward. With this revelation, an explosive chain of events is set in motion - and Dina's perfect life spins out of control. A journalist with a fearless instinct, Simon Keller believes he's struck gold when he unearths an unsettling story about Graham Hayward, one that starts with a clandestine affair and ends in tragedy. The trail leads Simon to Dina's front door - and threatens to expose a secret that could rock the political world. Now Dina is thrust into the crosshairs of a coldblooded killer - and on the run for her life.

Excellent book with suspense and a bit of romance thrown in. This is a new author for me but you can be sure I'll be reading more of her books! A journalist is approached by his mentor and former professor to write a book about a former president who was known for his high moral character (no, this is not non-fiction - lol) and who promised he would and did always tell the truth. Unknown to Simon, the journalist, the moral president was not as advertised. Simon interviews his Chief of Staff, Miles Kendall who suffers from dementia and discovers that the president had a lover and there was a daughter from this relationship. As Simon digs, he finds lots of peculiarities such as 4 pages missing from the police report of the lover's death, for example. His research sends him to a small town in Maryland where he discovers the daughter, who is every bit as breathtakingly beautiful as her mother.

Simon falls hard for her. Dina, an adult now, finds out the painful truth her "mother" had hidden from her for over 30 years after nearly being deliberately hit by a car. Her "mother" and she are now targets simply because they exist and know the truth. The twists of the plot kept me guessing and eager to discover who or what is responsible for the threats. I highly recommend the book if you enjoy drama, secrets and suspense and a bit of romance. :)
