A bit difficult to begin reading (drags a little), but it picks up after chaper 2. The characters are interesting, easy to follow, but the plot is a tad predictable. Good reading while traveling.

The tale of a love affair in the height of the Vietnam war soldier meets girl leaves girl with child and returns to his home country never thinking of the past again. Unfortunately, for this soldier he became President of the United States and in the course of his diplomatic travels he encounters this past and must face a great dilemma when the daughter he never really knew is kidnapped. Our hero seeks out a cadre of hard core types to accomplish the great task of rescuing her before the world finds out her identity.
Sean Dillon the feature of many Higgins novels clever and suave as always is handling the security details for the President before being enlisted to find his kidnapped daughter.
Twists and turns around every corner don't trust your first instinct everything isn't what it seems with Jack Higgins.

The story is intriguing and fast pace. The characters have the potential of being interesting, but they aren't developed enough except for the President and even him takes a back seat after the first third of the book... If you are looking for a book for fast reading with action and some intrigue, I recommend this book. But if you'd rather get involved with the characters and understand why they act the way they do, this book might leave you wanting more.

International espionage at its best. Two of Higgins's favorite heroes, Sean Dillion and Liam Devlin, unite with FBI agent Blake Johnson, a decorated Marine, to solve this suspenseful thriller. When the President finds out that he had a daughter while stationed in Vietnam, this knowledge triggers a chain of events that could place the world as we know it in danger. A devious group of people discovers his secret and, acting with terrible speed, they seize the woman. If the President does not comply with their demands, they will kill her. This mystery thriller is fast paced and filled with believable characters and humor, as well as heroes whose powers of deduction and actions continue to amaze and surprise readers right up through the climactic and emotional conclusion
