The Presidents of the United States of America
The Presidents of the United States of America Author:Frank Freidel Published with the White House Historical Association, this informative book profiles the lives and administrations of each of the 43 American presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush.
This is a good book, but brief. It provides a good overview of each presidency, a portrait and interestingly, an image of their signature. This is a starter book. I will now move on to something with more depth. But it did help me pin down those presidencies that I would like to know more about. For example, the fact that John Quincy Adams was the first president to seriously propose a national system of highways and canals--basically the beginnings of a national infrastructure makes him an interesting candidate for a more in-depth read. You might find something else that interests you more. I enjoyed this.
This book is written at the 10th grade level. Its a good beginning if you want to research various presidents. Here you will find out the "basic" information of the person, which could serve as a launching point for further research on those presidents you might fine interesting.
