Helpful Score: 1
Commander Larry Cole is a tough Chicago cop who knows the streets. After a routine drug bust outside the National Science and Space Museum goes wrong, Cole discovers that over the years 181 people have disappeared from the Museum. When he finds himself in love with Edna, the beautiful cop backing him up, he finds there are some things you just can't prepare for.
This started out as an interesting mix of police procedural with horror story, but rapidly devolved into a first-novel mishmash of characters with unexplained motivations, bad guys getting the upper hand over good guys with no explanation of how it happened, and a Head Villain who disappears in one scene and whose "mummified" corpse appears hours later.
THIS BOOK WAS A COMPLETE SURPRISE. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN.
