tani reviewed Princess Masako: Prisoner of the Chrysanthemum Throne on
Helpful Score: 3
I ordered this book after reading in the local paper that the book had been prevented from being published in Japan. It seems that the author had refused to remove certain offensive (to the Kunaicho, I think--Read the book and you'll know who *they* are!) statements. There is a great deal of secrecy surrounding the Imperial family, who are certainly not free to do *anything* they want and one cannot help but feel very sorry for them, especially Masako and Michiko, her mother-in-law, both of whom were "born free" as commoners.
