Picks right up where the previous novel left off. A whole slew of characters to follow. Eugene, the new self styled Emperor, is searching for a drakhaoul of his own to increase his power. Gavril gets back in the fight and at the end, so does Francia, another kingdom. Lots of backstory about the tears of Artamon, etc. Very enjoyable.

Gavril has finally cast out the dragon daemon from within. The Drakhaoul is gone and Gavril finds himself driven mad by its absence.
At the mercy of the victorious Eugene of Tielen, Gavril is sentenced to life in an insane asylum. But the powerful Eugene wants to possess a Drakhaoul of his own.

Sarah Ash has created a vivid story full of dragons and gunpowder, various and intersting characters against an exotic Russian background. There are so many twists and turns, you don't know which way the lives are the characters are going to go!

Story Line was OK, but dragged at some points. The magic element was not what I expected. I was entertained by the book in general, but will not read any additional books in this series.
