What happened to the Details popup on the main My Account page? The last few days it's REEEAAALLLYYY wide -- I have to scroll 4 pages to the right to see the content, and another 4 pages to see the X at the top right to close it. I'm sure it works fine for most -- but maybe the programmers could take a little more care of things like browser compatibility when making changes?

PBS is constantly working to improve the site for its members. Sometimes these changes work less than perfectly. PBS relies on reports from members regarding problems of this nature, so contacting PBS directly is the best way not only to fix the problem for yourself, but for others experiencing the same problem.

When on the Contact Us page (the link to which can be found under the Company heading among the links at the bottom of your screen), click the gray Send Us Feedback button, and you'll be taken to the page from which you message will be sent. PBS will reply to your feedback by way of both email and the Club Communications page, which can be found as a blue link in the yellow band just beneath the tabs of your main My Account page.

Dan, on a separate note, you'll need to remove that link from your forum signature. As stated in the Help Center document titled "Can I use the Club for advertising or to sell anything?":

"No advertising of any kind may appear anywhere on the site, including but not limited to Personal Messages, Discussion Forum posts, public profiles, forum sigs, book reviews, Eclectic Pen submissions, Book Wiki and Book Tags."

That's really odd...I'm on here multiple times a day and use both IE here at work and Firefox at home but haven't had any issues with the details popup in either of those...just checked again to be sure....which browser do you use?

I think, as I understand the following rule, that his link is okay because there is no text with the link (such as "buy my __!").  It just says link.  I've copied the help docs below.  I couldn't link to the specific doc because it was a pop up, but all I did was go to the help docs and search "how to use the discussion forums" and it's the first one to come up.  I highlighted the relevant part below.

The rules:

  • We ask that members behave courteously to one another, refrain from vulgarity, and do not 'bash' PBS or promote other swap sites.
  •  Advertisement or solicitation is not permitted in any member-contributed content on PBS, including the Discussion Forums and members' Forum sigs on PBS. (This does not include "advertising" your PBS bookshelf in the Book Bazaar.)

We will remove any links or other material which solicit for any purpose -  commercial or nonprofit. It is okay (an exception to the no-commercial-links policy)  to include a link to your personal webpage in your forum sig or public profile, even if your webpage is your business webpage; but there must be no accompanying soliciting text with the link. No links to other swapping sites, or any commercial sites, may appear in any member-contributed content on PBS--not in Forum sigs, nor Forum posts, nor PBS Profiles, nor PMs, nor the Eclectic Pen, nor Reviews or Book Tags.

Repeated violation of the Forum posting guidelines may lead to suspension or termination of membership.

I stand corrected. As the site to which the link leads seems to be Dan's own page, and not that of another business, and as his link contains no soliciting text, it is acceptable. Thank you for pointing that exception out Shannon :)

James, thanks for the suggestion, I've done the Feedback thing.

I'm using Firefox 2.  Yes, I know it's a very old browser, but at present I have no other option.  Besides, there's no reason why a simple website that doesn't need to do anything cutting-edge has to cause problems for older browsers, except that web designers like to do new (and unnecessary) stuff.  And there are a number of good reasons why someone might want or need to use an old browser.

re: the link, I didn't realize it was there until I saw some hits from it in my web stats.  I've removed it because I don't particularly want it there. I must've put it there when I joined PBS; for a while I was putting it in my tagline on forums, not for any hits it generated, but because there's a theory that more links to a page raise Google's ranking of the page.  But it didn't seem to make a difference, so I've long since stopped doing it.
