Can someone tell me if PBS has stopped the ability to post directly to someone's wishlist?

I know how to do it as it's something I've done before when mailing multiples, however yesterday and today, I've been posting directly to someone's wishlist, to send them multiples - it says, you are posting to this member's wishlist but the book has instead gone into the system. I've already had to cancel two requests because they went to the wrong person and now it's doing the same thing to me today, so I'm going to be disappointing more people and not be able to save on shipping. Plus I'm worried the canceling will flag my account.

Coming to this forum, I've noticed several posts on problems with the website, so I'm thinking that's what's going on here. Did I just choose a bad time to spring clean my bookshelves? Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking I may need to contact PBS directly?

That's weird... they haven't stopped direct posting as far as I know and even if they had it set to auto w/ no credits/PBS cash it should be turning into a 48-hour hold. I think that the best solution would be to contact TPTB directly because this seems to be some kind of glitch.

I haven't posted to a WL in the last couple of days, but prior to that I didn't have any problems. In fact, posted a couple on Sunday and they went through fine. Pat

I just posted to a friend and it seems to have gone through, okay.  Went to the product page and clicked "Post This Book," then selected friend from list.

I did do it a slightly different way, I was in their WL book list and posted the book that way, which prompted the "you are posting this book to this member [member's name]" so it should have gone directly to them but it went into the system.

I had posted three books yesterday morning straight to a member in exactly the same way but yesterday afternoon and this afternoon, it's just not working with two different people, so not an isolated incident. I wondered if it's because I'm a limited member rather than standard but that wouldn't explain why it worked earlier but not since?

I contacted PBS directly about the problem. I don't like disappointing the members that thought they were getting the book FIFO or the members that thought they were getting multiples. I'm also disappointed because now I have a stack of books from a major spring cleaning purge that I can't afford to mail out one by one. Wish I could work out what the problem is?!

Can you put your bookshelf on hold so it doesn't roll over to another person?

Would it have sent the books into the system if the person you were mailing to declined the offer?

Declining the offer was mentioned as a reason in the help center for books going into the system rather than to a specific WL but both members had agreed to my posting the other books to them and were expecting them, one even had it on auto-request.

I have no idea what's going on but I'm not posting any others in case the same thing happens. Thanks to everyone for trying to help, I appreciate it!

I just tried posting directly to someone's WL (twice) and both times it went into the system and not to their WL, and I had to cancel the request. Did send feedback to TPTB, so we'll see what happens. Pat

Just looked at my request for books, and PBS came through and has apparently fixed the problem.  Didn't take very long either.  Pat

That's odd. I posted directly to a member yesterday and it went through fine. She had requested a book from my bookshelf, and I noticed that I also had one  that was on her wishlist so I posted it from her WL page and when she accepted, the system correctly combined the new request with the one I already had so I could mail both together.

The only thing I can see that's different between what I did and what Emma did was that I already had a request from the same member. I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

Minutes ago a Friend tried to post a WL book to me and instead it went FIFO.  This is all so frustrating ... The Team seems to fix one thing and then two others stop working.

Sorry to the others having this problem as well but at least I know now that it isn't just me. (Phew!)

Thanks for posting to let me/us know, hopefully it will fixed soon.

It's not you!  I just posted (or thought I did) 4 books to a friend.  2 of them actually went to her.  The other 2 were posted to other people.

What a mess to try to straighten out.  It told me I was posting to her each time!  All the books remain on her wishlist as well.

I am so frustrated I could scream right now.

Just posted three books to a friend and this method worked:

1. Enter the ISBN, title, or however you normally post a book
2. On the book's product page, click "Post This Book"
3. Select friend from drop-down list and click "Post the Above Book"

Hope this helps.

That possibly works if you're a standard member but as a limited member I don't have any drop down list on the book page, there's just post this book.

I can only post a book by being in someone's wishlist and at the moment that option is not working, even when it says it's posting it to them.

I am a Standard member and I had the same problem that Emma C. has described. At the beginning of the week, I could post directly to a specific member while on their WL. Now when I try that, the book goes into FIFO. This has happened both when trying to post to a Friend's WL and to a member who is not on my Friends list.

I just tried this again (posting to another's WL, not a Friend).. It did not go to the intended person, but to the next on the FIFO list.

Come on, PBS! This is getting ridiculous.

I always check member WL whenever I post a book, and if I have another from their WL, I post that one too. Win, win.

Or so I thought..

Now, instead of mailing a multiple WL order, I have to mail out 2 separate books. And no... I'm not going to cancel the second book, even though it went FIFO to a different member, because IMO that's not very nice.

The method mentioned above only works if you're posting books to someone on your friends list, but not for adding extra books to a FIFO WL order.

PBS needs to fix this- a lot of people like to send more than one book to make their mailings cost effective. A week or two to fix bugs after an update- that I can understand. This? Not at all. It's been far too long, PBS. Come on already.

That's nice of you, in my case the person posted, i accepted, she printed, said she'd mail bu the 22nd, then cancelled. Computer error..it reposted to me. I wish she'd send it.

Here is a workaround that might help while they track this bug.  They are aware of it and are working to fix it, but it is a time consuming issue to find.  :)

--

(1) Invite the other member to be Friends

  • you can do that using the "Add a Friend" button on the Friends List or
  • from the other member's Profile, using the +Friends button there

(2) The other member needs to accept your Friend invitation

  • the system sends an email with a link when an invitation is sent (unless "accept all friends" is enabled in the Privacy Controls)
  • OR you can find the link to your pending Friends Invitations at the top left on the Friends List page

(3) Once you are Friends, you can go to the Post Books page and type in the ISBN on that page (just as if you are posting it into the general system).

  • The system will show you (on the right side of the screen) a list of your Friends who have that ISBN on their Wish Lists, and
  • You can choose the one to whom you want to post the book.

HTH as a workaround!

It's still a problem. I had a friend who I have been friends for years try to post me three books, but they went FIFO after she posted them to me.

I don't want platitudes or "workarounds" anymore. I want what I'm paying for. A website that works.

The "workarounds" that you all are posting with smiles and "let's just be patient" messages Do. Not. Work. Many of us also do not friend members indiscriminately either.

It is not too much to ask to expect the website to function properly. As I said above- a week or even two at the most would be considered a tolerable amount of time to fix any "bugs" or unexpected problems that arise from a new update. But this is going on for FAR too long, and it would seem that there are new problems arising from their "fixes". I for one expect far better. We're paying for it.

That workaround (which was also PBS's official suggestion to my problem) doesn't work for me as a limited member, already tried it!

Reading the FAQs, that's a method for Standard members, you're out of luck if you're a limited member. And before anyone suggests I upgrade so I can possibly use it, I'm not upgrading membership to a site that seems to be having multiple problems!

If this were still a free site to use then maybe I'd have more patience but Debbie B is right, we're paying for this now. I haven't seen that PBS has officially acknowledged this problem yet. They did in their email to me but that's not exactly letting everyone else know. How many people are still trying to post to someone's wishlist and it's going FIFO? So people are having to mail singles (because they feel guilted into it) or they are having to cancel.

To see the problem "owned" and a head's up to other members would be nice. Thankfully someone mentioned it in the "WL multiples" thread in the Book Bazaar, which is probably the most common place that multiple shipments originate from but should it really be up to members to have to warn other members of a problem?!

I am a standard member.  This problem happened to me also. I posted book to a friend's WL yesterday and it said I was posting it to her, but today when I am about to print the label, it is going to someone in FIFO.  This same problem happened with this same friend, when she tried to post a book directly to my WL, last week.  We have been members of PBS since 2007 and never a problem like this.  I hope it will be fixed soon.
